A ton is a ton, of course; but bricks have much greater density than feathers, and so we are tempted to think of them as heavier (Figure 11.2. 1). Figure 11.2. 1: A ton of feathers and a ton of bricks have the same mass, but the feathers make a much bigger pile because they have a much lower density.
They are the same!
You might be attempted to say 100 pounds of feathers, as an analogy to the similar “Which is heavier 100 pounds of gold or 100 pounds of feathers?” But unlike gold, bricks are not measured using Troy system, but it also uses Avoirdupois system. So, the answer is both are of the same weight.
They both weigh the same. A POUND of feathers vs. a POUND of rocks. A pound is a pound, and whether it is a pound of feathers or a pound of rocks, it doesn't matter.
Their masses are identical. The only thing that will be different is their volume. Even if you compressed the feathers until you squeezed all the air out, they would still be seven times the volume of the iron.
If you check carefully, both are of the same weight as they weigh but, cotton occupies more space than iron i.e. volume of 1 kg cotton is greater than that of 1 kg iron.
Since both cotton and pebbles are of equal mass i.e 1kg, so they both weigh same. so, both 1 kg cotton and 1kg pebbles are of same weight.
Precious metals like gold and silver are measured using the “troy” system where there are 12 ounces in a pound. If you normalize everything to mass a pound of feathers is 454 grams and a pound of gold is 373 grams, therefore the feathers are technically heavier.
Which is heavier, a bag of 10 kg stone and 10 kg of feathers? Well, the contents of the bags both weigh 10kg. So they weigh the same.
In the Troy system only 12 ounces equal a pound. So a pound of feathers weighs 453.59 grams approximately and a pound of gold weighs 373.24 approximately. So a pound of feathers weighs more then a pound of gold. Some say gold because it is heavier.
As long as they're both on the same planet, every kilogram weighs the same. Put 1 kg of stones and 1 kg of feathers,on opposite ends of a see-saw, and they balance. They are equal.
▶️The answer: Of course, both have the same weight! But iron is denser than feathers. That means the weight is packed into a smaller space, or the feathers are less dense than iron but take up much more space for the same weight.
Your basic standard brick weights about 4.3 pounds. As previously stated, if 113 standard bricks make up a single layer on a pallet, that layer would weigh 486 lbs.
The weight of 1 brick is 2 kg.
Indeed: On the Earth, even if only by a little, 1 kilo of iron weighs more than 1 kilo of feathers!
The answer is, of course, that 1 kilogram of gold is just as heavy as 1 kilogram of feathers. They both weigh 1 kilogram!
Cotton is heavier by 10 kg.
Sand is heavier than water when the volume of both substances is equal. The density of dry sand is between 80 and 100 pounds per cubic foot, whereas water is 62 pounds per cubic foot.
Gold is much heavier than lead. It is very dense. Another rather simple way to think of this is that if the density of water is 1 g/cc then the density of gold is 19.3 times greater than water.
Which is lighter and easier to pick up — an anvil or a feather? Of course, the answer is a feather, but that doesn't stop most salespeople from picking up anvils.
According to Ornithologists the average feather weights 0.000289 ounces or (0.0082 grams), but the weight of feathers varies. A feather can weigh around 0.00125 pounds.
How Heavy is Gold Brick? A standard gold bar weighs 12.4 kilograms (which is 400 troy ounces, or 27.4 pounds). Banks across the world use this weight. In some cases, a 1-kilogram brick may be the standard (which is 32.15 troy ounces, or 2.2 pounds).
The relationship between mass and volume is called density, and measures the amount of mass that fits in a given volume. Water has a density of 1 kg /L, that is, 1 liter of water has a mass of exactly 1 kg.
