The Smallest Size Of Bra: Uncovered
The smallest size of bra that is widely available is a 28AA. This bra has a 28 inch band, along with a bust that is less than one inch bigger than the ribcage.
There is a difference of between 2cm and 2.54cm (depending on where you shop) between each cup size, so an AA is an inch smaller than A and DD is an inch bigger than D.
As Rachel at small-bust brand Lulalu explained, “our A-cup is a 1″ difference, followed by 0.5″ for our AA cup, and less than 0.5″ for our AAA cup”.
* Wait, there's a size below A? Yep, there are two, actually. If you know where to look, you can find expert bra-makers that stock AA and even AAA cups in band sizes 32 up to 36. Ahead, shop bras from trusted bra brands like Third Love, Lulalu, Wacoal, and Victoria's Secret in sizes AA and AAA.
Australian bra sizes typically range for band sizes from 8 (25-27 inches) to 26 (43-45 inches).
Generally, the A cup is considered the smallest available but for some this is still too big and compensating with a smaller band size won't help. If you want something that's going to fit your form you'll have to go down a level to an AA or even AAA cup.
Understanding “Ideal” Breast Size
Likewise, 49% of men and 52% of women concurred that a C cup is the ideal breast size, which is close to the average breast size of women in both the United States and Europe.
There are more than 123,000 A.A. groups around the world and A.A.'s literature has been translated into over 100 languages.
Globally, a natural female breast has an average size somewhere between a large "A" and a smaller "B" in the US size system. According to European or Australian classifications, this would be a "B".
In the United States cup sizes range from A to N. The cup sizes get larger as the letters go up in the alphabet. Size D is bigger than A, and H is bigger than D. Sizes are as follows: AAA, AA, A, B, C, D, DD, F, G, H, I, J, K, L, M, and N.
The bra size 32A is larger than the size 32AA. The difference between 32A and 32AA is that the cup size of 32 A is larger, and it will also be a little bigger around the ribs. A smaller cup and smaller rib cage are features of the 32AA.
Small: 32A, 32B, 34A, 34B. Medium: 32C, 34B, 36A, 36B, 36C.

B Cup. Both A and B cup sizes make up the smaller end of the cup size spectrum. However, just because these cup sizes are smaller does not mean that they don't require a supportive bra.
Breasts that appear smaller can be caused by genetics, rapid weight loss, hormones, medical conditions, malnutrition, post pregnancy or a lack of breast tissue development.
For less than one inch you are a AA cup, for one inch you are an A cup, for two inches you are a B cup, for three inches you are C cup, for four inches you are a D cup and for five inches you are a DD cup.
The first AA contact
On the 7th December 1942, the Medical Superintendent of Rydalmere Hospital in Sydney NSW, Dr. Sylvester.
Yes, it certainly is! There is no “normal” when it comes to breast size… Lots of women wear bra size AA throughout their entire lives! As long as you are at a healthy weight (check with a doctor to make sure) you should be perfectly fine!
The measurements given in this source (breast weight by cup size) were calculated using the average underwire size and the cup diameter of the more common bra brands. For example, Bra sizes 38A, 36B, 34C, 32D, 30E, 28F weigh about 0.9 pound per breast. An A cup breast weighs on average 236.3g.
While it's really difficult to precisely determine the standard breast size in the U.S. (or anywhere in the world, for that matter), we do know that the average breast size in America is a 34DD.
It's because when bra sizing was first developed, the only cup sizes that were available were A, B, C and D. However, when it was discovered that Women's breast actually came both bigger and smaller than this then they needed to add a size either side of this scale. Hence the DD and AA.
If your bust measurement and band measurement are the same number, you're an AA cup. If there's a 1-inch difference between bust and band you're an A cup; 2-inch difference is a B cup, 3 inches is a C cup, 4 inches is a D cup, and so on.
