Plot. In the summer of 1963, 17-year-old Frances "Baby" Houseman is vacationing with her family—cardiologist father Jake, mother Marge and older sister Lisa—at Kellerman's, an upscale Catskills resort in the Borscht Belt owned by Jake's sarcastic best friend Max.
After Baby apologizes to Johnny for her father's behavior, they dance and have sex.
One night, when she had complications during an illegal abortion, Baby sent for Jake, her father who is a doctor, to help Penny. Jake later mistakenly infers that Johnny got Penny pregnant, but finally realizes that it was actually Robbie, and forgives Johnny towards the end of the film, during his dance with Baby.

On the way, Baby learns that Penny is pregnant. Having seen Johnny and Penny sexily dancing together, Baby assumes Johnny is the father. When they find Penny, Johnny comforts her, takes her back to his bungalow, and offers her part of his meager salary for an abortion.

Johnny Castle is a dance instructor at Camp Kellerman's. He becomes Baby's dance instructor, and dance partner, where he falls in love with her.
Through voiceover narration, Grey's character recalls the summer of 1963, describing it as "a time when everybody called me 'Baby,' and it didn't occur to me to mind." When the Housemans get settled at Kellerman's, it's heavily implied that Frances is called "Baby" because she's the baby of the family.
The only thing her dad has against Johnny was that he thought Johnny had gotten Penny pregnant then sent her off to get an illegal abortion because Johnny took responsibility for her condition when she had the infection.
Dirty Dancing on HBO never addresses the eight-year age difference between the two characters, which makes the film somewhat controversial – both then and now – because Baby is indeed a minor. In 1963 America, though, it wasn't uncommon for men and women to be in a relationship or marry at a young age.
' [But it wasn't done] for shock value or a stunt." That "ending" saw Johnny and Baby reunite 10 years after their initial meeting at Kellerman's. It's 1975, and Johnny Castle has brought Dirty Dancing to life as a Broadway musical in New York City.
Baby embraces her relationship with Johnny and her newfound confidence while Johnny stands up for himself against the resort's owner, Max (Jack Weston). The final image of Dirty Dancing presents one of unity as the resort's entertainment staff and upper-class guests are all dancing together.

Cantor played womanizer Robbie Gould, who dates Baby's sister Lisa and gets Penny pregnant. After Dirty Dancing, he appeared in Fear, Anxiety & Depression (1989).
And in Dirty Dancing, Baby outgrows her fixation on her dad by bonding with a new man — the hunky dance instructor at her Catskills resort, Johnny. Baby's journey from virginal girl to confident woman takes place through dance, which is used in the film to symbolically express sexuality.
But the biggest change was probably the ending. A flashforward to Baby and Johnny's future revealed him to be a Broadway star in a show based on their summer romance, while Baby was a married mom.
They perform their amazing dance for everyone at Kellerman's, including the lift. By the time they're done, everyone, even the oldest of fogeys, are grooving in the aisles. Johnny gives Baby a passionate kiss, which is the best way to end this memorable vacation.
In "Survivors", Carmen has her first ultrasound. Later at LaRusso Auto, Amanda, Daniel, Louie and Chozen find out that Johnny is having a baby and they are happy for him.
