Black pepper contains piperine, which exhibits antitumor activity in several cancers. It may help reduce PCa proliferation and interfere with the cancer's cell cycle. In one study of PCa patients with advanced disease, piperine seemed to amplify the effectiveness of the chemotherapy drug docetaxel.
Peppers. Different types of peppers have slightly different nutritional profiles. Bell peppers have the highest vitamin C content of any food (yes, even oranges!) and may help to reduce the swelling and inflammation associated with an enlarged prostate.
Jeera (cumin), Saunf (fennel), and Pudina (mint):
These spices help balance the vata and regulate bowel movements and urination through their anti-flatulent and diuretic properties. You can brew a herbal tea using these spices or add them to your dishes and salads.
Saw palmetto (Serenoa repens)
The extract of this plant is a popular herbal supplement for the treatment of BPH. Saw palmetto is an inhibitor of 5-alpha-reductase. It also has anti-inflammatory properties and can reduce the number of estrogen and androgen (DHT) receptors.
It is also the main component that gives black pepper its health-boosting qualities. Piperine is considered a type of antioxidant that helps to lower the risk of chronic illnesses like atherosclerosis, cardiovascular disease, and neurological conditions.
Bleeding conditions: Piperine, a chemical in black pepper, might slow blood clotting. In theory, taking black pepper in amounts greater than those in food might increase the risk of bleeding in people with bleeding disorders. Diabetes: Black pepper might affect blood sugar levels.
5-alpha reductase inhibitors.
These medicines shrink the prostate. They do this by preventing hormone changes that cause the prostate to grow. Examples include finasteride (Proscar) and dutasteride (Avodart).
Medication is often the first step of enlarged prostate treatment. There are multiple drugs that can help reduce BPH symptoms, including: 5-alpha reductase inhibitors that help shrink the prostate. Alpha blockers that relax prostate muscle fibers and bladder neck muscles.
Citrus: Oranges, lemons, limes, and grapefruits are all high in vitamin C, which may help to protect the prostate gland. Onions and garlic: One study found that men with BPH tended to eat less garlic and onions that men without BPH.
Boosts Prostate Health. Avocados are rich in beta-sitosterol, which helps to get rid of enlarged prostate symptoms. According to a study, an avocado extract hinders the growth of prostate cancer cells, thus reducing the risk of prostate cancer.
Some studies suggest that low doses of turmeric (1/2 teaspoon serving per day) may have some efficacy in conditions such as benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH) or psoriasis, but larger confirmation studies are needed as only a small fraction of turmeric is absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract at these low doses.
Ginger is effective in blocking 5-lipoxygenase, an enzyme that promotes cancer development. It helps reduce the risk of cancer and even helps shrink tumors in the prostate.
One study found that men with benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate) had fewer urinary symptoms when they took garlic, compared to men who took placebo. The garlic also reduced prostate size. More research is needed to see if garlic really helps men with enlarged prostate.
Massaging the prostate empties that fluid out of your prostate ducts. To do the procedure, your doctor will slide a gloved finger into your rectum, then massage or press on the prostate from there. It may feel slightly uncomfortable, but it doesn't take long.
Drinking water is essential for prostate and overall health. On average, it is recommended to consume at least eight cups of water daily. Be sure to drink water during and after exercise.
Both green tea and hibiscus tea are among the top drinks for prostate health.
What may come as a surprise is that regular physical activity may actually help prevent some prostate disorders and improve prostate health. Emerging scientific evidence suggests that engaging in a few hours of exercise a week may help keep prostate enlargement in check.
Can an Enlarged Prostate Be Cured? For most patients, BPH (enlarged prostate) is curable. Some people see a significant reduction in symptoms with medication alone. If medicine does not work, or your prostate is too large, surgery will often remove enough of the prostate to provide you with relief.
It is known to increase testosterone levels as it is rich in zinc and magnesium – two minerals critical for male sex hormones. It also increases sperm count and its concentration. The zinc in pepper also helps in the development and movement of sperms.
High doses of turmeric could have a blood-thinning effect; if taken on top of prescribed anticoagulants, this could increase the risk of dangerous bleeding. People with liver or bile duct problems should not take turmeric supplements, as they can increase bile production.
