Before the disaster, Chernobyl was home to about 14,000 people. Although humans are not supposed to live there, some survivors remain in nearby villages.
While it naturally fades over time, this can sometimes take thousands of years. Scientists have previously said, due to the huge amount of contamination in the Chernobyl area, the exclusion zone will not be habitable for many, many years.

Obviously you can no longer see the actual reactor as it's hiddent underneath the new "sarcophagus" they finished buliding in 2016. However, you can get quite close to the strcture and for those who go inside the power plant, you can actually go inside the Control Room #4, where the accident basically started.

Scientists have noted significant genetic changes in organisms affected by the disaster: According to a 2011 study in Biological Conservation, Chernobyl-caused genetic mutations in plants and animals increased by a factor of 20.
The official death toll directly attributed to Chernobyl that is recognized by the international community is just 31 people with the UN saying it could be 50. More than 400000 m3 of concrete and 7,300 tonnes of metal framework were used during the erection of the sarcophagus. The building ultimately enclosed 740000 m3 of heavily contaminated debris inside, together with contaminated soil.
The nuclear particles in the air were so strong they started eroding the cameras film causing the image to appear grainy.
To visit the Exclusion Zone, you must be dressed in closed clothing that covers all areas of the body as much as possible (long sleeve, long tight pants, comfortable shoes, preferably with thick soles), the headdress is welcome.
