The 'as required' Tadalafil (generic Cialis) has an advantage over Sildenafil in that it lasts a lot longer – up to 36 hours (compared with 4-5 hours for Sildenafil). Some men prefer this as it allows for more spontaneity.
Structurally vardenafil (Levitra) is similar to sildenafil, while tadalafil (Cialis) is very different. Vardenafil (Levitra) is almost 10 times more biochemically potent than sildenafil, therefore a lower dose is needed to facilitate the penile erection, potentially resulting in less side effects.
Tadalafil shares a similar efficacy and safety with sildenafil and significantly improves patients' sexual confidence. Furthermore, patients and their partners prefer tadalafil to sildenafil. Hence, tadalafil may be a better choice for ED treatment.
Effectiveness of all PDE5 inhibitors is similar; although reported effectiveness of Viagra, at 84% is slightly higher than that of Cialis at 81%. However, more men prefer Cialis because of its longer duration of effect.
Peak plasma concentrations of Cialis are reached within 30 minutes to six hours (average time two hours) of a dose. Effects of 'as needed' Cialis last for up to 36 hours. The recommended starting dose for once-daily Cialis for ED is 2.5mg; once daily Cialis for BPH, 5mg; and 'as needed' Cialis, 10mg.
Cialis taken as needed
But if this dose doesn't work for you, your doctor may have you take two 5 mg tablets of Cialis at once. This will increase the dose back to 10 mg. If the 10-mg dose of Cialis isn't working well enough, your doctor may increase it to 20 mg.
Dosage and strength for erectile dysfunction
Sildenafil tablets for erectile dysfunction come in different strengths ranging from 25mg to 100mg. The usual dose is 50mg, when you need it. Do not take it more than once a day. The dose can be increased to 100mg or decreased to 25mg depending on its effect.
One dose of Cialis can help improve erectile function for up to 36 hours. In comparison, Viagra's effects can last up to 4 hours. But on average, its effects start to lessen 2 to 3 hours after you take a dose. The typical dose for once-daily Cialis for ED is 2.5 milligrams (mg) to 5 mg.
There are several reasons Viagra and other ED drugs might not work effectively as treatments for erectile dysfunction. These include using Viagra incorrectly, taking a low dose of Viagra and using Viagra to treat ED that's caused by something other than poor blood flow.
Sildenafil citrate (Viagra): This is the most commonly prescribed type of OTC Erection pill. It relaxes muscles in your blood vessels and increases blood flow to your penis during sex. The FDA has approved this drug for erectile dysfunction only when other treatments have failed.
Why You're Not Getting All the Way Hard. Erectile dysfunction's mechanism is quite simple, but the underlying cause could be a myriad of reasons, from poor diet and exercise habits, diabetes or heart disease, to low self-esteem, depression or anxiety.
Don't take Cialis and Viagra together. Not only will combining them not improve ED symptoms, but it can also be dangerous. Talk with your doctor about any concerns you have about your ED and its causes. In some cases, incorporating both medication and lifestyle changes is the best way to help improve ED symptoms.
Unfortunately, that's one of many dangerous logical fallacies when it comes to ED medications: taking two pills isn't going to make your erection twice as hard, or twice as large — it's just going to cause your risk of adverse effects to double.
Sildenafil (brand name Viagra, or affectionately nicknamed “the little blue pill”; see Important Safety Information) is a highly effective medication to treat erectile dysfunction. However, there is something it can't do. Viagra does not make your penis bigger. No pill does.
The short answer is yes; you can take Viagra or its generic form, sildenafil, every day. Whether you need to or should, depends. Since each person is different, you should consult with a doctor about what's best for you. They can discuss dosage and frequency.
The most common side effects with Cialis are: headache, indigestion, back pain, muscle aches, flushing, and stuffy or runny nose. These side effects usually go away after a few hours. Men who get back pain and muscle aches usually get it 12 to 24 hours after taking Cialis.
If you take Cialis as needed, be sure to give yourself plenty of time (since it takes up to 1 to 2 hours to kick in). Otherwise, you can't speed it up after you've taken it. If that's not working for you, you could consider taking a lower-dose tablet every day. This might be better if you prefer to be more spontaneous.
Is 40 mg of Cialis safe? Taking 40 mg of Cialis could be dangerous and raise the risk of side effects such as a sudden drop in blood pressure and priapism. The typical dose is 10 mg for occasional use and 2.5 or 5 mg for daily use. The typical maximum dose of Cialis for ED is 20 mg once a day.
PDE5 inhibitors enhance your body's natural arousal response by increasing blood flow to the penis, giving you harder erections. Compared with other ED drugs, Cialis lasts longer, working for up to 36 hours. But that doesn't mean a continuous erection for 36 hours.
If Cialis no longer works, a number of other effective treatment options are available. Penile injection therapy for erectile dysfunction with Trimix injections or prostaglandin injections offers a reliable and effective option for the treatment of ED in many men.
When combined with grapefruit, this effect can cause a serious increase in blood flow around the body, especially when combined with nitrates. This is because grapefruit can increase the amount of Cialis in your body.
They found that treatment with Cialis (10 or 20 milligrams taken as needed) was associated with significant increase in ejaculatory and orgasmic function across all levels of severity of ED, EJD and OD, compared to use of a placebo agent.
