We rely on our suppliers to advise whether products are halal suitable or not. Unfortunately, we don't have in-depth information on every ingredient that goes into the product and we're unable to advise in specific why this bread isn't halal suitable.
Almost all bread, milk, butter, cheese, yoghurt and margarine are halal certified. All of these products are naturally halal, but are now certified. Many Coles and Woolworths home branded products are also halal certified.

Halal bread is bread that meets the Muslim definition of halal. Halal foods are ones that are permissible to eat for members of the Muslim faith. Foods that should be avoided are known as haram, and mashbooh is the term used for foods that are questionable.
Among the questionable materials of its halal status commonly used as anticaking agents are E542 (edible bone phosphate, derived from animal bones), E570 (acid stearate) and E572 (magnesium stearate). Stearic acid can be derived from plants or from animals.
Food Products
Meindertsma discovered that protein from pig hair is often used as a “dough improver” in bread. In other words, proteins of animal origin are used for solubility, high emulsifying and foaming capacity and stability in baked goods.
The yeast (khameerah) that is added to the dough does not come under the heading of khamr (intoxicant) that is haraam, and does not have any effect of causing intoxication or languor, especially since cooking it with fire alters the yeast completely, so that it no longer has any effect.
Some breads contain gelatin which is another texturizer made from animal connective tissues. And another sneaky one is L-cysteine, a dough conditioner or flavor enhancer from ducks or pigs.
What Makes a Bread Halal? Bread is a simple product. On the surface, it seems that it would likely be classified halal. However, mass-produced breads can easily contain haram or doubtful (mushbooh) ingredients.
Coles works closely with the certifier, Supreme Islamic Council for Halal Meats in Australia (SICHMA) to ensure that the entire supply chain is certified Halal.
French inspired, Aussie made bread
But Coles Finest by Laurent isn't just a pretty loaf. It's made in Australia using locally milled flour and a natural starter culture, which is over 25 years old and based on a traditional recipe.
In addition to the Woolworths pre packed plain rolls and breads which are Halaal, selected Woolworths baking products are manufactured at a SANHA certified facility and will bear the SANHA logo.
Australian flour miller, Manildra Group, the brand behind the iconic, in-house Coles Bakery breads and sweet and savoury baked goods, has been awarded Coles Bakery, Deli and Seafood Supplier of the Year 2021.
You can imagine my shock then to discover that ALL of the Coles branded Chicken, Lamb and Beef were actually halal certified even in a town with only 3 Muslims. This is not applicable to all Coles stores however. The first and easiest step to sourcing halal meat is to find the brands that you know are halal certified.
The ingredients used in their Halal smallgoods are of the highest quality and meet the strict requirements of Australian Halal certification.
The major source of gelatin is pigskin and is using in processed food and medicinal products. Though the use of food products adulterated with porcine-derived gelatin create concerns in the mind of Muslim communities, as in Islam; it is not acceptable or literally, it is called Haram in Islam Religion.
Baker's yeast: Baker's yeast is considered halal. Brewer yeast's extract in bakery snacks: Most Muslim consumers avoid food products made from brewer's yeast extract since it is a by-product of beer.

Is VEGEMITE certified Halal? VEGEMITE is certified Halal by The Halal Certification Authority (HCA). VEGEMITE is made on a dedicated production line and does not contain or come into contact with any animal derived ingredients and the yeast in the product has been processed to ensure the product is alcohol free.
Lard bread is pretty much what it sounds like—an ugly-beautiful concept in which rendered pork fat and meaty morsels of cured or roasted pork are woven into a simple bread dough.
Alcohol is produced as a 'bi-product of the fermentation process of yeast', however this is unavoidable and is part of the process of baking bread. Further, the alcohol is trace (very difficult to detect) and dissipates in the process hence Halaal.
