First and foremost, concentrates are much more potent than flower in terms of THC percentage. Flower contains between 10-25 percent THC but concentrates typically fall around the 50-80 percent mark. Because of this, it takes a lot less concentrate than flower to achieve the desired effect.
Typically, it takes at least a quarter of an ounce of flower, or about 7 grams, to yield 1 gram of wax or shatter. So it makes sense to use strains with high amounts of THC, given that it will take less plant material to yield a gram of concentrate than it will with lower THC levels.
Unlike weed flower, which is simply dried cannabis buds or leaves that are inhaled in through your preferred method, concentrates are made from cannabis that has undergone an extraction process, through which only the pure CBD and/or THC extract from the plant remains.
Cannabis flower and concentrates have differing perks. The flower is excellent for a classic consumers' experience, but concentrates will give you higher amounts of THC. The most significant differences between cannabis flower and concentrate are their levels of potency, as well as flavor.
In terms of intensity of high in the dabs vs flower debate, dabs get you more high than flower. This is because dabs contain a much higher THC level than flower. You can still get just as high smoking flower, it just takes more material and more hits to do so.
Essentially, dabs usually have higher potency compared to cannabis buds. Concentrates can have anywhere from 50 to 90 percent THC. On the other hand, flowers typically have THC content ranging between 15 to 20 percent.
Most people find that the easiest way to enjoy concentrates is by combining them with cannabis flower. To do so, you can sprinkle some budder on top of a bowl, mix live resin with your flower, or wrap shatter around the outside of a joint.
Generally, concentrates come in either 0.5 or 1 gram sizes. One gram contains about 800 mg of cannabinoids, or about 80 percent of the oil, and other cannabis compounds.
Cost-efficiency
Flower buds can contain about 20 percent cannabinoids by weight, while dabs have an average of 80 percent cannabinoids by weight. A gram of cannabis flower can run you $15 while a gram of concentrate can cost you $60. Generally, the price of dabs and flower is about the same.
While wax and shatter most commonly range between 40%-70% THC, distillate can be as high as 99% THC, making it by far the most effective way to consume THC in terms of pure potency.
Cannabis is harmful to the lungs, but in a different way to tobacco, causing significant respiratory symptoms such as bronchitis with evidence to suggest it can result in destructive lung disease – sometimes referred to as 'bong lung' – in heavy cannabis users.
What is a gram of weed? If grown well, 1 gram of cannabis flower comes out to about one medium-to-large-sized bud, or two smaller budlets. This is the minimum you can buy at a dispensary.
A 1g cart (10 x 3) should be able to get you roughly 300 hits. Roughly 250-350. This is all dependent on how hard you pull, how long you pull, the viscosity of the oil, the humidity of the environment you are in, the charge level of your battery and type of battery, amongst other things.
Marijuana concentrates contain extraordinarily high THC levels ranging from 40 to 80 percent THC amounts. This form of marijuana can be up to four times stronger in THC content than high grade or top shelf marijuana, which normally measures around 20 percent THC levels.
Cannabis concentrates are much more potent because it's the 'concentrated' version of flower. Often referred to as 'extracts' or 'dabs', concentrates come in various forms, such as shatter, wax, live resin, and distillate or oil, and can be dabbed with a dab rig, or vaporized in a dab pen or cannabis vaporizer.
For example, a gram of concentrate with a potency of 80% will contain 800 milligrams of cannabinoids. From there, you can break the slab into eight pieces for 100 milligrams per dab or 16 pieces for 50 milligrams per dab. These portion sizes are more likely to be used by experienced dabbers.
The best type of concentrate to dab is any of the grades of wax concentrates, but shatter and oil can also be consumed this way. Any type of concentrate that's consumed by dabbing can also be called a dab.
Dabs smell. They don't smell as strong as weed smoke, though, and can serve as a good alternative. Since dabs produce vapor, their smell is not harsh or reminiscent of something burning. It is often an earthy, herby smell instead.
There are many strains of cannabis offering different levels of THC, usually between 15% to 25%, making flower far less potent than a most dabs. Flower is usually smoked in a joint or with a bong. And with any decent bong or better, you'll find that the hits and effectiveness are better than in a rolled joint.
Although some people believe that dabbing is a safer method of ingesting cannabis because it is so highly concentrated and a person only has to take one hit to get high, that couldn't be further from the truth. Simply put, there is no completely safe level of drug use.
An Eighth: 3.5 grams or ⅛ (an eighth of an ounce)
A quarter of weed — aka a quarter of an ounce of weed — clocks in at 7 grams. To put that into perspective, a quarter-ounce of marijuana is enough for five to seven blunts and an arsenal of joints. Double that and you get a half-ounce, or 14 grams.
A . 5 gram size will typically yield 150 puffs and 300 puffs from a full gram cartridge. A 'puff' is generally considered to be about 3-5mg depending on how long you inhale.
Summary. A dangerous condition, ARDS—or wet lung—happens when the lungs are damaged by illness or injury and fill with fluid instead of air. This interferes with airflow in the lungs and oxygen transfer to the rest of the body. Organ failure and, in some cases, death can result.
