We learn that Fergus (Romann Berrux) is not getting drunk and beating Marsali. Hooray! Unfortunately, Marsali is the one getting angry at Fergus. She's mad at him for drinking and staying away for days on end.
In spring 1767, Fergus and Marsali marry in the West Indies and Jamie gives Fergus his own last name, thus formalizing their relationship as father and adopted son.
These bruises are there before the attack on Claire and Marsali, though. We do get to see a conversation between the two of them play out, with Marsali explaining that Fergus is being rough at times and leaves marks but that he isn't abusive. Fergus is struggling to find his place in the backcountry.
Marsali would have been left a widow with four children, and everyone would have been devastated. Fortunately, that's not how it all played out. And we got to hear that Fergus and Marsali were heading to New Bern where Fergus could open up his own print shop.
Fergus is 17 years older than Ian and 15 years older than Marsali.
Henri-Christian is born as the fourth child of Fergus and Marsali. He is a dwarf and some of the residents of Fraser's Ridge believe he is a punishment for his parents' sins. Henri-Christian is placed in a basket and put into a stream by some boys. Roger saves him and baptized him.
He also gave Marsali the support she needed to believe that she would make it through another pregnancy. Despite everything he is currently going through, he was there when she needed him the most. Marsali did survive childbirth. The baby also survived.
In the novels, Marsali and Fergus apparently know. They haven't been told on-page, but Diana Gabaldon confirms that the two know that Claire, Bree, and Roger are time travelers.
Interestingly, Jamie's son, William Ransom, now 19 years old and Earl of Ellesmere, will be a large part of the Outlander season 7 story, and viewers should expect Lord John, Fergus, and Marsali to take a larger role next season as well.
She went into intense labour during dinner, with Claire Fraser (Caitriona Balfe) and Malva Christie (Jessica Reynolds) by her side, Marsali gave birth to a son. Despite the happiness in the room, Fergus was instantly devastated after spotting their baby was born with dwarfism.
It's possible that Amelie's sister is the one who gives birth to the line that leads to Claire. Fergus will still be an ancestor but not a direct ancestor and that would mean Laoghaire isn't one of Claire's ancestor.
His wife, Marsali, asks Murtagh to ask Fergus to join the cause he is fighting for because it will make Fergus feel more like a man.
The Outlander TV show on Starz has cast two more roles for the upcoming third season. César Domboy is replacing Romann Berrux as Fergus.
He may never have called Jamie “Dad,” but Jamie has been the only father figure he's ever known. He's always looked up to Jamie, and this moment shows that Jamie continues to respect Fergus and call him family. There are sadly some who wouldn't view adopted sons and daughters in the same way as biological ones.

In July 1767, Fergus leaves North Carolina to fetch Marsali and their first-born child Germain from Jamaica. They come to Fraser's Ridge in the summer of 1768. In September 1770, Marsali gives birth to their second child, a daughter named Joan.
There, they take over a printing shop and start publishing a weekly newspaper. Fans will be pleased to hear that Marsali is still alive in the world of Outlander. Jamie also has two stepdaughters, Marsali MacKimmie Fraser and Joan MacKimmie, from his marriage to his second wife, Laoghaire MacKenzie.
She is a bit older. The book version of Marsali is only 15 when she boards the Artemis with Fergus (age 30) in Voyager. For modern sensibilities, they aged Marsali to 18 on the show.
Fergus apparently knows Claire is a time traveler in Outlander. Diana Gabaldon mentions now and then on social media that Fergus knows Claire is a time traveler. This is something that happens off-book in the series. Fergus and Marsali have both learned the truth, which is important for later books.

And in spite of all she'd done to hurt the Frasers Claire tried to at the least save Malva's unborn baby. The baby did not survive. As a result many on the Ridge and the area accused Claire of murdering her and the baby, resulting in Claire's arrest by Richard Brown.
Claire was promptly carted off to a witch trial by an angry mob baying for blood with Jamie and also Tom Christie (Mark Lewis Jones) accompanying her to ensure no harm came to the doctor.
