Harry belonged in Gryffindor. “Only a true Gryffindor could have pulled that out of the hat.” - Dumbledore talking about why the sword of Gryffindor appeared for Harry. Harry also belonged in Gryffindor, because that's where his values lay and where he wanted to be.
Harry Potter came very close to being sorted into Slytherin before he persuaded the Hat to sort him into Gryffindor.
Harry chose Gryffindor over Slytherin because the Hat was considering putting him there, due to the shard of Voldemort in him. He never had his pick of the four Houses and, had he insisted on being put in Hufflepuff, the Hat would have flatly refused, as it did for Neville Longbottom.
He of course shows more Gryffindor than Slytherin traits but horcrux in him had enough influence on him that hat sensed his more Slytherin like side and wanted to place him there but because hat takes into account persons wish he respected Harry's wish not to be in Slytherin and he placed him in Gryffindor.
Their house animal is the lion and their house colors are scarlet and gold. Gryffindors never back down from a fight or doing what they believe is right. Some of the most famous gryffindors include Harry Potter and Albus Dumbledore, the most recent headmaster of Hogwarts.
Bravest: Neville Longbottom
Neville has the incredible distinction of being a true Gryffindor, worthy of Godric's own sword, and it was literally only his own courage that got him there.
But when they went to Hogwarts, everything changed. The pair were parted when the Sorting Hat placed Severus in Slytherin and Lily in Gryffindor, and while Lily thrived in her new, magical life, Snape was essentially placed in close quarters with the likes of Lucius Malfoy, Avery and Mulciber.
Worst: Lucius Malfoy
Lucius Malfoy is pretty clearly a bad person, but he's a perfect example of how banal cruelty and evilness can be. Lucius likes to control, humiliate, and cause people pain, but he's also too weak and self-absorbed to really become one of the evil "greats," so to speak.
Though the Sorting ends up plaguing Albus Potter all through school as the only member of his family to set foot in Slytherin, he's there for a reason. And that reason has nothing to do with lineage or attributes or inclination. He just wanted to spend all of his time with Scorpius Malfoy. So he did.
Neither of them is Slytherin's heir. Although, as Dumbledore says, Harry's ability to speak Parseltongue is a skill accidentally transferred by Slytherin's actual heir, Voldemort, when he tried to kill Harry as a baby. So perhaps this is one myth with a bit of truth to it.
A Professor at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Snape is hostile to Harry due to his resemblance to his father James Potter, who bullied Snape during their time together at Hogwarts. As the series progresses, Snape's character becomes more layered and enigmatic.
Merlin aside, and before the events of Cursed Child, Slytherin alumni don't have the best of reputations. 'There's not a single witch or wizard who went bad who wasn't in Slytherin,' Hagrid famously said – but just because nearly all bad wizards are Slytherins doesn't mean all Slytherins are bad wizards.
If Harry had been placed in Slytherin, it would have altered his path drastically. It's doubtful, for example, that he would have developed such a strong friendship with Ron and Hermione. Although that's not to say that he would have got on with Draco Malfoy, either. He was, after all, the worst.
As we've seen the sorting hat does take what the person wants into account so the hat may have been considering Hufflepuff but Ron asked it to put him in gryffindor to make his family proud of him.
Unfortunately, Slytherin has constantly been associated with evil witches and wizards. Most of this negativity surrounding Slytherin came because of the rise of Lord Voldemort and his followers, the Death Eaters.
Ravenclaw is not the worst House in Hogwarts Legacy
Despite what others claim, Ravenclaw is just as good as Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, and Slytherin. And no, being able to levitate cats with Levioso isn't a Ravenclaw-exclusive ability, despite what a viral TikTok video says.
Hufflepuff is stereotyped as a house for pushovers and Ravenclaw for bookworms. Finally, Slytherin is thought of as the 'evil' house. These stereotypes are found all throughout Harry Potter, with Harry himself refusing to be sorted into Slytherin and Draco Malfoy saying he'd leave if he were sorted into Hufflepuff.
Scarlett Hannah Hefner (née Byrne; born 6 October 1990) is an English actress. She is best known for her roles as Slytherin student Pansy Parkinson in the Harry Potter series, and as Nora Hildegard in The Vampire Diaries.
Slytherin: Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces
This house is stereotypically the house where all the villains of the wizarding world originate (sorry, water signs), but IMO, they're also the most misunderstood, which is also true of water signs (particularly Pisces).
If there's anything a Slytherin loves, it's a loyal follower, and a Hufflepuff embodies this to a tee. Want a partner you can rely on, especially if things turn dark? Only a Hufflepuff will endeavour to see the good through the bad, no matter what. Lastly, we have Slytherin partnerships with Gryffindors.
Although Snape may not have projected his memory of James onto Harry, he still would have been predisposed to dislike him by virtue of him being James Potter's son. Harry being in Slytherin would not have changed this fact.
The Head of Slytherin is Horace Slughorn (who left the role to Severus Snape for fifteen years before taking it up again in 1996) and the House's patron ghost is the Bloody Baron.
He is proud
Pride is a key Slytherin trait, and arguably Albus has it in cauldrons. Sometimes this is to his advantage, like when he takes pride in having a friend like Scorpius Malfoy, who is funny and clever and kind, no matter what the rumours say about him and his parentage.
