Hermione's capacity for and relentless pursuit of knowledge makes her one of the most powerful characters in the Harry Potter universe. Of course, she doesn't look it, but there are plenty of times when she demonstrates this throughout both the books and the movies.
Formerly known as Tom Marvolo Riddle, Lord Voldemort was the most formidable evil wizard in the entire universe. Until Harry Potter, Voldemort's magical prowess was practically unmatched, and no one could stand a chance against him.
Hermione could beat Dumbledore any day if she wanted to. She's one of the most brilliant minds of her generation; like any good Gryffindor, she's brave, loyal, and strong. She mastered advanced spells at a young age, could make any potion perfectly, and her quick thinking saved her, Ron, and Harry more than once.
Harry achieves a higher mark in their Defense Against The Dark Arts O.W.L., but Hermione grades higher in every other lesson. This includes Charms, Potions, and Transfiguration, all complicated methods of magic capable of overwhelming Harry's defensive skills.
Hermione Granger
Beyond just being studious, she was able to perform extremely advanced magic, like brewing the Polyjuice Potion as a second-year or the combination Protean Charm/jinx on Dumbledore's Army's coins that permanently disfigured classmate, Marietta Edgecombe.
Lord Voldemort
Tom Marvolo Riddle started both Wizarding Wars, created the Death Eaters and killed Harry Potter's parents. We could go on – he was the most dangerous Dark wizard of all time – but we won't. His horrific achievements are well known.
Harry's other best friend, the bookish and kind Hermione Granger can't be beaten in the classroom. Harry recognizes her as his year's best student and even said so at some point. But while Hermione can ace any test, she can't quite keep up with Harry on the battlefield.
Perhaps Hermione would have had some trouble against Voldemort in her early years, but as an adult witch, she could certainly give him a run for his money if not outright demolish the Dark Lord. Her power combined with her breadth of knowledge is tough to beat.
28 More Powerful: Hermione Granger
She was not only extremely talented, but she was also very smart, and in the end, her wits would have given her the upper hand against Voldemort.
The power you are born with is the power you keep. Hermione, however, is one of the few characters who achieves great skill mostly through hard work. She edges out many other strong characters in Harry Potter due to her prodigious work ethic, friendship, and ability to get even more powerful overtime.
Even though Hermione is the brightest witch of her age, Bellatrix far outclasses her in terms of magic, may it be duelling skills or knowledge of the Dark Arts. If Hermione wanted to duel Bellatrix, then she should at least practice the Unforgiveables, most importantly Avada Kedavra.
In each installment of the Harry Potter series, Hermione Granger is the smartest of the trio. She has the best academic memory, highest grades, and always expanding her knowledge. However, it is Hermione's logic and by-the-book mentality that allows Harry to surpass her.
For example, in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, Snape was reluctant to fight McGonagall when the latter took him to a duel in front of Hogwarts students. Both characters had their strengths, but the last Harry Potter movie proved Snape was the strongest Hogwarts professor.
Throughout the Harry Potter series, Albus Dumbledore, the beloved Headmaster of Hogwarts, proved time and time again that he was the smartest hero of the Wizarding World. His magic was so strong and his knowledge so extensive that he was the only wizard Voldemort was said to be afraid of.
Hermione is one of Harry's best friends and is a powerful witch. She has parents who are Muggles, meaning they do not possess magical ability. Ron Weasley, another wizard, is one of Harry's best friends and is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Antonin Dolohov used the curse twice during the Battle of the Department of Mysteries, first against Hermione Granger, who was knocked unconscious but survived.
Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley destroy the Hufflepuff's cup Horcrux inside the Chamber of Secrets—Hermione giving it the fatal blow with a basilisk fang.
Ginny is the youngest in the Weasley family but one would argue that she is the most powerful. The movies show a little bit of it but in the books, she can throw some pretty powerful spells right alongside Hermione, who happens to be one of her closest friends. You want power in a little package… look no further.
Weakness: Sometimes she was close-minded
For all of Hermione's many strengths, one of her biggest weaknesses was that she could be close-minded. She often thought her way of viewing the world was the only right one, and she would shut down anything that seemed illogical to her.
In fact, without Hermione Granger, maybe there wouldn't even be a Harry Potter series at all; Harry and Ron would have probably died tangled up in some Devil's Snare in their first year. Thankfully, Harry happened to make best friends with the smartest, most dexterous and logical witch of his year.
Hermione was good at defensive spells and charms, but she was once caught and hurt by Bellatrix, which should be enough to suggest she couldn't defeat the evil witch in a duel.
History Of Avada Kedavra
The Killing Curse was created in the early Middle Ages by Dark witches and wizards. Primarily, the curse was used to quickly slay opponents during a duel.
Peter Pettigrew represents the worst Gryffindor in the entire Harry Potter series. Wormtail, as he was known among his friends, was thought to be a friend of the Marauders and a member of the Order of the Phoenix, but he was secretly working for Voldemort and committed the ultimate act of betrayal in the series.
