Eren Yeager (Japanese: エレン・イェーガー, Hepburn: Eren Yēgā), also spelled Eren Jaeger (Turkish: Eren, "Saint"; German: Jaeger/Jäger, "Hunter") is the protagonist of the Attack on Titan manga series created by Hajime Isayama.
Yeager is a mostly American surname, a phonetic transcription of the common German surname Jaeger (Jäger), meaning hunter. Notable people with the surname include: Albert F. Yeager, (1892-1961) American horticulturalist.
like for example Eren Jeager and Johan Liebert are pronounced as Eren Yeager and Yohan Liebert. why? Because those are German names in German(-inspired) settings, and that's how the Germans pronounce "Jaeger" and "Johan."
Jaeger is more correct as it's closer to the word "Jäger", the origin of Eren's surname, which means hunter in German. Jeager and Yaeger are always incorrect, never use these.
As Eren Jaeger fights to change the world in Attack on Titan, he owes a great debt to the man he is named after, Eren Kruger. One of the previous wielders of the Attack Titan, Eren Kruger is single-handedly responsible for, well, the entire series.
Eren's fight was never really against Marley or the Titans, but rather a world he was never suited to live in. This is what truly sets Eren apart from other shonen protagonists: they belonged in their worlds, but Eren Yeager never did.
German (mainly Jäger) and Jewish (Ashkenazic; also Jäger): occupational name for a hunter, from Middle High German jeger(e), Middle Low German jeger(e) (agent derivatives of jagen 'to hunt'); as a Jewish surname, it is mainly artificial, derived from German Jäger.
Jaeger is a boy's name of German origin. It derives from the German surname Jäger, an occupational surname deriving from the Middle High German word jeger(e), meaning “hunter.” This surname may also be Scandinavian and Ashkenazi Jewish.
Eren Yeager would later use the name Kruger as an alias whilst in Marley in homage to him.
