However, it's through praying every night that you have the chance to feel loved and protected by God while you sleep. Taking the time to pray at night helps you or a loved one get a good night's rest. There are plenty of beautiful prayers to say at the end of the day.
For anyone who has ever nodded off during Mass, here's your get-out-of-purgatory-free card: Pope Francis nods off when he's praying, too. And he says God is quite OK with it.
Sleeping Prayer
I am placing my soul and my body in your sanctuary this night, O God, in your sanctuary, O Jesus Christ, in your sanctuary, O Spirit of perfect truth, the Three who would defend my cause, nor turn their backs on me.
Psalm 4:8. “In peace I will both lie down and sleep, For You alone, Lord, have me dwell in safety.” Dear Lord, You offer a deeper rest than anything this world can boast.
Night prayers are said to be ideal for asking God for blessings because it is said he is more likely to listen. “The most excellent prayer after what is prescribed is prayer during the night,” the Prophet said.
Prayer gives you a connection to something greater than yourself, which does wonders for your emotional well-being. It provides a greater sense of purpose, betters your mood, and helps you cope with and overcome the difficulties life brings your way.
Psalm 33:8
You can rest without worry or fear—all night—because while you rest God is watching over you. He is mighty and powerful, and he works all things for good for those who love him.
The Lord's Prayer
“Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.”
[25] And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.
These three powerful morning prayers are the prayers of thanksgiving, the Lord's Prayer, and the prayer of Jabez. Jesus taught his disciples how to pray, the Bible tells us to enter his gates with thanksgiving, and Jabez prayed to God and God granted him his request.
Watch over me as I sleep
The Lord watches over you – the Lord is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night.” God, I thank You that You watch over me now, and I thank You that You will watch over me tonight as I sleep. I praise You for Your faithfulness and Your goodness.
Through the scriptures, we are taught that God will always hear our prayers and will answer them if we address Him with faith and real intent. In our hearts we will feel the confirmation that He does hear us, a feeling of peace and calm. We can also feel that everything will be fine when we follow the Father's will.
So, yes, God does hear our prayers. It may be that the answer He is giving is for you not to give up praying, it may be to stop certain sins in your life, it may be a silence that calls you closer in order to learn the sound of His still small voice. But He hears.
Do Christians think praying can help a dead person get into heaven? Not exactly. All Christians believe that only God can determine whether a person belongs in heaven or in hell. Entreaties on behalf of the deceased can't sway God from what's right, but post-mortem praying does have other uses.
There are times when we can say, “Your will be done” without having to struggle. Yet, for all Christians, there are times when, like Jesus, we find “Thy will be done” to be one of the hardest prayers ever.
Pray with a friend.
There is power in agreement when we pray in Jesus' name. When I have an urgent need to take before the throne of God, I will often call a friend to pray with me.
Here's an example of a morning prayer to give thanks for a new day: Dear Lord, thank you for allowing me to awake to yet another beautiful day. I am grateful for the beauty of the sun and Your other creations. Despite sometimes forgetting to proclaim my thanks, I am overjoyed by the wonders around me.
Some Christians will argue that the act of living together before marriage is not a sin itself. Rather, sleeping together or engaging in any sexual activity before marriage is the sin. And some unmarried couples may argue that it's okay to live together if they aren't sleeping together.
Proverbs 20:13 The Passion Translation (TPT)
If you spend all your time sleeping, you'll grow poor. So wake up, sleepyhead! Don't sleep on the job. And then there will be plenty of food on your table.
The typical schedule for the Divine Hours follows a three-hour pattern, with prayers at 6:00 a.m., 9:00 a.m., noon, 3:00 p.m., and 6:00 p.m. In addition, there are evening prayers and morning prayers outside of these times.
In addition to this, Jesus said grace before the feeding miracles, at the Last Supper, and at the supper at Emmaus. R. A. Torrey asserts that Jesus prayed early in the morning as well as all night, that he prayed both before and after the great events of his life, and that he prayed "when life was unusually busy".
The bible tells us that David had a vow of praise unto the Lord. Seven times a day he would praise the Lord, and three times a day he would pray.
