The swelling that is normally expected is usually proportional to the depth of the laser resurfacing procedure. Swelling around the eyes and down into the cheeks and face is not uncommon. This is the body's normal reaction to surgery and eventual repair.
Varying degrees of redness, swelling and possible bruising are expected following the treatment. The redness can last for a few hours after the treatment. Typically, swelling of the area will last 24 to 72 hours, and any bruising will darken within the first 24 hours and resolve over seven to ten days.
Swelling should be at a maximum on days 2 to 4 and start to decrease after this. You may also have some bruising. This is normal and should resolve over 7-10 days. POSITION: You should sleep with your head elevated on several pillows to help decrease swelling.
After treatment, it's common to see some redness. This usually fades within 2 weeks. You may also see a rash of purple or red spots. These, too, tend to clear in 1 to 2 weeks.
Right After Treatment: Mitigate Swelling and Redness
Most people will experience some redness, swelling, or stinging on the face. An ice pack or cool wet cloth can be applied on the skin to relieve these side effects. An over-the-counter pain reliever can be useful to reduce swelling and alleviate more severe pain.

Sometimes, IPL can induce rosacea aggravation. Here, we show two cases of erythema rosacea aggravated as pustule in several hours after IPL. Both cases show high density of Demodex after IPL.
Laser treatment is largely painless, although some people may have mild bruising or other symptoms listed above. If these symptoms last for more than a few days or you feel like your skin is burning after laser treatment, contact your doctor right away.
Cool Compress
Lack of sleep, allergies, salty food, and smoking all can lead to under-eye puffiness. The bags usually mean fluid has collected there. One of the easiest home fixes is a cool compress.
The most common side effects of laser hair removal include: Skin irritation. Temporary discomfort, redness and swelling are possible after laser hair removal. Any signs and symptoms typically disappear within several hours.
Metronidazole. Metronidazole is an antibiotic drug that reduces inflammation. It is very commonly used in the treatment of rosacea. Metronidazole products are applied to the affected areas of skin once or twice a day in the form of a cream, lotion or gel.
They can last a few days to a few weeks. But medical experts do know that certain things can trigger a rosacea flare-up. If you note when you experience rosacea symptoms and what events precipitated it, you can minimize your flare-ups by avoiding your triggers.
Rosacea (roe-ZAY-she-uh) is a common skin condition that causes blushing or flushing and visible blood vessels in your face. It may also produce small, pus-filled bumps. These signs and symptoms may flare up for weeks to months and then go away for a while.
Your skin will look worse before it looks better
With IPL, it is normal (and, in fact, desirable) to have browning of the skin after a treatment. It starts appearing right away, and will look at its brownest the following morning. The worse the browning is, the more effective your treatment will be.
Side effects from IPL therapy are usually mild and temporary. They can include redness, swelling, bruising, and itching at the treatment site. More severe side effects are rare but can include burns, scars, and changes in skin colour.
Depending on the severity of your rosacea, you could notice an improvement a few days after your initial treatment and the majority of the patients will respond well. However, every client is individual and the recommended number of treatments may vary.
Facial redness, broken capillaries and angiomas (red dots), rosacea and port wine stains can all be successfully treated with the KTP laser. The bright green laser light is absorbed selectively into shallow blood vessels which are gently headed to stimulate a repair process.
Redness lasts for two to five days. Bruising may last up to two weeks. Darkened age spots or freckles last for three to seven days. Crusting may last up to 10 days.
IPL often requires more treatments and may not achieve the same final hair reduction as a laser can. Due to this, hair removal using a laser usually produces faster results. IPL is effective in not only hair removal, but also treating rosacea and facial flushing.
Laser therapy can result in misdirected or excessively intense burns, bleeding from the choriocapillaris, damage to macular and other ocular structures, and breaks in Bruch's membrane.
This side effect happens when pores get clogged. Since the heat of the laser opens up your pores, your skin will be sensitive to these very tiny infections. They happen the same way as any acne would – dead skin cells and bacteria can't escape, so they create a puss-filled bubble as your body tries to get them out.
Erythema: Redness, inflammation or a histamine reaction is normal, the area being treated will be red and bumpy after a treatment and should settle after 2 – 3 days. Any sort of trauma to the skin may react this way.
