If you're using an iPhone 11, we recommend upgrading to an iPhone 14 (or even an iPhone 13). In the last three or so years, Apple has made enough changes to features including battery life, performance, screen quality, cameras and durability to merit buying a new iPhone.
While both phones have a 6.1-inch screen, there are some significant upgrades on the iPhone 14. Firstly, the display on the newer model is OLED rather than the lower-quality LCD on the 11. The iPhone 14 also has a higher resolution, HDR, a greater contrast ratio, and is significantly brighter.
The iPhone 14 is better than the iPhone 12 in almost all areas, offering a brighter screen, a faster chipset, more capable cameras, and longer battery life. It also boasts basic satellite connectivity and Crash Detection. The iPhone 14 is a worthy upgrade for anyone coming from an iPhone 11 or an older model.
So, if you have been looking to buy a new iPhone, it is best to get an iPhone 14 right now. However, if you can wait for two more months, it would be advisable to do so since Apple is likely to reduce the price of the iPhone 14 after the launch of the iPhone 15.
Despite being well over three years old, so much about the iPhone 11 holds up remarkably well in 2023. The biggest reason for this is its processor. Powering the iPhone 11 is Apple's A13 Bionic chip.
Many older iPhones can run Apple's latest operating system, iOS 15.5. According to Apple's policy of supporting iPhones for six years, we might estimate that the iPhone 11 will be supported until 2025. As a result, you may rest assured that your operating system will be up to date at least for a few years.
It sports a completely new look, but you also get a number of improvements under the hood. The iPhone 13 gets an OLED screen, a big upgrade over the LCD screen on the iPhone 11, it has a faster processor, upgraded cameras and longer battery life. The iPhone 13 is also considerably lighter and we'd say prettier.
However when it comes to iPhones, you can expect between three to five years (maybe more) with proper care.
The standard iPhone 14 models are basically slightly upgraded versions of the iPhone 13 — they run on the same processor (A15 Bionic), the upgrades to the camera system are minor, and the displays still don't support Apple's high-refresh-rate, ProMotion.
The iPhone 14 features the same A15 Bionic chip that powered the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max. Compared to the A15 Bionic chip in last year's standard iPhone 13, the iPhone 14's chip features one additional GPU core. CNET said the iPhone 14 is "speedy" with fluid animations and no performance hiccups.
On the old iPhone, go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > then tap on “Get Started” Now turn on the new iPhone 14 Pro / iPhone 14 if you haven't done so yet (it may ask you to update to a new version of iOS first) and stop at the Quick Start screen.
The iPhone 14 lineup comes with what Apple says is roughly 1 hour longer battery for each model and the 14 and 14 Pro do feature larger mAh capacities (14 Pro Max capacity is ever so slightly less but battery life is up). But you might not experience that performance all the time.
The iPhone 11 has the A13 chip, the iPhone 12 the A14 and the iPhone 13 the A15. Three years between them in which we find, above all, a significant leap in energy efficiency. This translates into longer battery life, as you will see in the final summary table.
We haven't seen widespread complaints about iPhone 14 battery life, but some users are saying their phone's battery is draining faster than it should be. iPhone battery life issues are common, particularly after Apple releases new iOS software.
Update Apps: Make sure all your apps are up-to-date, as older versions of apps can sometimes cause battery drain. Reset Your iPhone: If none of the above steps work, you may need to reset your iPhone to factory settings. Before doing so, make sure to backup your data to iCloud or iTunes.
iPhone 11 vs iPhone 13: Performance and battery life
The iPhone 11 has Apple's A13 Bionic chip while the iPhone 13 uses the A15. Both are plenty fast and capable of running all of the new features in iOS 15.
The iPhone 13 might not be a huge jump from the iPhone 11, certainly in terms of core design and specs. But all the little improvements, from a faster chipset to improved cameras, 5G connectivity and a smaller notch, all add up to make it quite the upgrade.
Refurbished iPhone 11
You'll get iOS updates and new functions until 2024.
The iPhone 11 features a 3,110 mAh battery, which is higher capacity than the 2,942 mAh battery in the iPhone XR. Apple says that it lasts for up to 17 hours during video playback, up to 10 hours for streaming video playback, and up to 65 hours for audio playback.
iOS usually supports phones up to 5 years. That's a very long time so there shouldn't be any problem in picking an older phone.
