She is represented as an evil fairy and the self-proclaimed "Mistress of All Evil" who, after not being invited to a christening, curses the infant
Maleficent is the main antagonist of Sleeping Beauty. She is an evil witch who takes offense at not being invited to the christening of Princess Aurora and she tries to get revenge on King Stefan and his people by cursing Aurora.
In the original Sleeping Beauty (1959), Maleficent is a horned witch-monster who can fly, apparate out of nowhere, shape-shift into a dragon, command the thunderous sky to do her bidding, and, of course, issue death curses at an infant christening she wasn't invited to.
Maleficent is a well known villain in sleeping beauty. Little do most people know, she wasn't always like this. In the earliest versions of the story, Maleficent was married to the King who cheats on her with the younger princess Talia.
Nothing happens to turn Maleficent evil. No back story is offered or hinted at to explain her malevolence—she has just simply always beenevil. Since she has no past, there are no grounds for any sympathy for her.
Queen Ingrith is the first main villain and the first overall villain in the Maleficent franchise who didn't die in their first appearance since she was defeated and turned into a goat by Maleficent. Borra does not count because he survived the film's climatic battle and redeemed himself.
1 Cruella de Vil (One Hundred and One Dalmatians)
The 2014 live-action reboot presents Maleficent as a good-hearted but tragic fairy who defends the Moors, a realm of supernatural beings, from neighboring humans. She is played by Angelina Jolie.
Maleficent used to be a powerful fairy living in the Moors, a magical forest realm bordering a human kingdom. As a young girl, Maleficent meets and falls in love with a Scottish human peasant boy named Stefan.
In Disney's animated Sleeping Beauty, the villainess transforms herself into a fire-breathing dragon to do battle with the prince trying to rescue his slumbering love.
Stefan later betrayed her and stole her wings, so he would be able to become the new king. Stefan later married Leila, Henry's daughter, and she became his wife and queen. Maleficent, enraged from his betrayal, placed a curse on his newborn daughter, that when she will turn 16, she will fall to a sleep like death.
The way Maleficent loses her magnificent wings is unsettling. Stefan, the man who Maleficent thinks loves her, drugs her. While Maleficent is unconscious, incapacitated, Stefan tries to work himself up to the task of killing her. Instead he cuts off her wings (offscreen thankfully).
She hated infant Aurora, and she called her "Beastie," and tried to scare her, but Aurora just smiled at her in response. Since watching Aurora over her childhood years, Maleficent soon grew a maternal love for her.
Maleficent can be considered pure evil from any perspective. There is absolutely nothing with which to redeem her. She is easily one of the most evil Disney villains ever to exist, if not the most evil Disney villain ever to exist.
But overall Scarlet Witch is more powerful, even if Maleficent may edge out in some areas.
Growing up as an orphan in the Moors, Maleficent believed herself to be the last of her kind. As she grew into adulthood, she became the de facto protector of the Moors. One day, Maleficent suffers a ruthless betrayal and deceit that turns her pure heart to stone.
The Maleficent version of King Stefan was initially good, but he became an evil villain. When Stefan was first crowned king after cutting off Maleficent's wings, until Aurora's christening, he appeared to be just a wise king, but that all changed quickly when Maleficent cursed his infant daughter Aurora.
Maleficent (Angelina Jolie) is actually a dark fairy who can control natural elements like roots, plants, and the weather. She can also cause other creatures to shape-shift. And for all means and purposes, Maleficent is also Aurora's godmother.
[Spoiler Warning] After Maleficent is killed while saving Aurora, she turns to dust, and Aurora sheds several tears over her ashes. The powerful expression of spontaneous love in turn resurrects Maleficent, causing her to literally rise from the ashes as a phoenix.
Sleeping Beauty's Maleficent is an explicitly satanic figure: “mistress of all evil,” in league with “all the powers of Hell.” At the climax she transforms into a dragon to battle Prince Philip, the most archetypally heroic male lead in any Disney cartoon.
Maleficent's powers come from a phoenix. The Dark Fey are living in imposed exile thanks to their conflict with humans. Chiwetel Ejiofor's Conall and Ed Skrein's Borra are two leaders of the Dark Fey introduced in the film. Conall dies while saving Maleficent later.
Queen Ingrith is a worthy adversary to the dark fairy Maleficent, with an evil plan to divide humans and fairies forever. She was portrayed by Michelle Pfeiffer.
Based on our analysis, Evil Queen is the most beautiful canon Disney supervillain on this list. According to her magic mirror, she's the second most beautiful woman, next to Snow White.
Maleficent – Perhaps the meanest character in Disney's history is Maleficent. The evil mistress from “Sleeping Beauty” puts a curse on Aurora after she isn't invited to her christening.
