Agustín is Mirabel's dad, the bumbling but well-meaning husband of Julieta (Angie Cepeda) who married into the Mardigal family and, therefore, has no magical gift. Due to being accident-prone, he often needs to be healed quickly, which works well with his wife, whose gift is to heal people with her cooking.
Character information
He is the husband of Julieta Madrigal and father of Isabela, Luisa, and Mirabel. Having married into the family, Agustín has no magical gift of his own like Mirabel. However, his accident-prone tendencies allow his wife to continuously refine her healing magic.
I was thinking of my daughter! Agustín, in reponse to Alma. Agustín Madrigal is a supporting character in Disney's 2021 film Encanto. He is the husband of Julieta, the father of Isabela, Luisa, and Mirabel, and the uncle of Dolores, Camilo, and Antonio Madrigal.
Born into the Madrigal family, Mirabel is the youngest daughter of Julieta and Agustín, and the younger sister of Isabela and Luisa. In addition to being the niece of Félix, Pepa and Bruno, Mirabel is also the cousin of Dolores, Camilo and Antonio.
Having married into the family, Félix has no magical gift of his own. However, he can be quite agile and quick on his feet. During the fall of Casa Madrigal, Felix pulls Antonio out of the falling rubble with incredible reflexes and runs with him out of the ruined house while avoiding the falling pieces of the house.
Mirabel is actually adopted.
She never had powers because she wasn't related to her family. They told Mirabel she just takes after her muggle father and she believed them but in truth, she wasn't related to any of them. Her parents found and adopted her when she was a baby.
Bruno Madrigal is a fictional character who appears in Walt Disney Animation Studios' 60th feature, Encanto (2021). Voiced by John Leguizamo, he is Mirabel's ostracized uncle who has the ability to see the future.
The Madrigal family members have various powers, each bestowed upon them by a magical candle that was bequeathed to Mirabel's grandmother Abuela Alma (María Cecilia Botero) when her husband was killed.
The character appears to symbolize the stigma around mental health issues: While he is never labeled with a specific diagnosis in the film, some viewers have suggested that he has OCD or another type of neurodivergent brain function.
Augustin, Mirabel's non-magical pops, is allergic to bee stings. We see his nose and ear seriously (if comically) swollen from the venom. But wife Julieta's magical cooking solves the problem right away.
According to the theory, Mirabel sabotaged her own gift accidentally during her ceremony. After touching a magical candle, Mirabel wipes her hands on her clothes, and fans speculated that this was the reason the young Madrigal didn't get powers. One of the Encanto directors recently debunked the Mirabel theory.
Though Disney hasn't detailed official plans, Encanto 2 is likely on the way, especially as the original became the fastest movie to reach 200 million streaming hours on Disney+. The soundtrack has also achieved unprecedented success, spending several weeks at the top of Billboard's albums chart.
However, Encanto puts a twist on it by not calling Mirabel the brains. Throughout Encanto, Mirabel has the nerve to figure out why the magical house is cracking, and she doesn't need supernatural gifts to accomplish her goal. Mirabel's gift is her intelligent determination, and she had that all along.
Mirabel's Power Is Her Ability To Bring People Together
Mirabel herself, with the uniting love of her family, empowers everyone. It's no mistake that "Mirabel" sounds like "miracle" – the same way "Madrigal" sounds like "magical." The movie also points out her power in some key lines of dialogue.
Dolores is the closest character to a villain in Disney's Encanto as she uses her magical gift to negatively affect people like Isabela. While Encanto doesn't have a traditional Disney villain, Dolores Madrigal seems the closest to fulfill that role, especially with how she tries to ruin things for her cousin, Isabela.
Essentially, Abuela and Mirabel have the same gift: to bring everyone together with love and support. This is illustrated by scenes like their heart-to-heart by the river, the song "All of You" which Mirabel and Abuela lead together, and even small details like Mirabel and Casita's very close bond.
Powers and Abilities
Julieta can heal people with her cooking; when a hurt or sick person eats food cooked by her, they are healed instantly. She was able to heal Mirabel's wounded hand with an arepa con queso.
So in saving the miracle, Abuela Alma Madrigal might appear to want to keep the magic going for personal reasons instead of the good of others. Alma isn't a villain in Encanto at the end of the day. Though Alma opposes Mirabel at points in the film, she's always thinking of others above herself.
In addition to being the nephew of Julieta, Bruno and Agustín, Camilo is also the cousin of Isabela, Luisa and Mirabel. He is Mirabel's second-oldest cousin and the same age as her, being only a few months older, and shared the nursery together for their first five years.
Mirabel is the younger twin sister of Camilo and the eldest sister of Sora, Korra, and Sabrina Madrigal and the firstborn granddaughter of the Madrigals, a family gifted with magical powers.
Why does Bruno put salt over his shoulder? Despite being able to see the future, Bruno is highly superstitious and performs several different actions to ward off bad luck like knocking on wood, throwing salt over his shoulder, avoiding stepping on cracks, and holding his breath while crossing his fingers.
The embroidery on her dress is little butterflies because she doesn't have her gift yet. Everyone's costume, once they get their gift, has something to do with their gift - but this means she's in this moment before it happened. She's got butterflies because she doesn't know what her gift is going to be yet.”
Though Dolores seems to hear Bruno living behind the house's walls, there's a reason she doesn't speak up about it. Dolores's super hearing lets her in on all the secrets in the town, and she even admits in "We Don't Talk About Bruno" that she believes she hears Bruno in the walls of the magical Casita.
Every other person in her family got to open their door, receive their gift, and get a gigantic magical room that's the stuff of dreams. But NothingReallyAndYou reveals that, actually, Mirabelle doesn't get a door or a room because the entire Casita is hers. Her gift was the magic in the very walls of the Casita.
