The telc exam German B2 is a recognized German certificate, which proves that you have intermediate knowledge of the German language.
In Germany TELC certificates are recognized as the official proof of German language competence in order to receive citizenship. In Poland the TELC certificate is recognized as the proof of language competence for civil service applicants.
At level B2 you will learn to express yourself clearly and in detail as well as to argue and negotiate successfully. You have a large vocabulary to thoroughly talk about your own interests and most general topics.
It's generally considered that reaching B2 is having basic fluency. You'll have a vocabulary of about 4000 words. In fact, the standard requirements at German universities are levels B2 to C1, so if it is enough to get you into a German-speaking university, it is enough to be able to communicate.
To make it short: there are no significant differences, as both – Goethe and telc – are recognized testing bodies. Just take the exam that suits you better in terms of testing dates and/or price (telc exams tend to be cheaper than the Goethe ones).
When it comes to the telc test for level B1 and B2, the test has a section called Language Elements that focuses especially on Grammar & Vocabulary. The Goethe format eliminated that pure Grammar section. However, the Goethe exam has a stronger focus on writing.
Going Toe-to-toe with the Goethe Zertifikat
If the TestDaF is the academic German level test, then the Goethe Zertifikat is the all-around one. It's by far the most famous test of the German language and is accepted by everybody who needs any kind of proof of German ability.
If you´d like to work in Germany you´ll get by if your German is on level B1/B2 (online test). The certificate issued by GLS is recognized by many employers and even some universities in Germany.
How hard is B2 level German? The German language is complex yet highly systematic. For a systematic language, you need a systematic course structure though. If the course material you are using has a thought-out structure, then it shouldn't be difficult.
As a rule of thumb, German universities require you to present a proof of upper intermediate to advanced German language skills (level B2/C1) to study in German.
The telc B2 Deutsch test is doable with 2-3 months of a solid preparation. Knowing the test format through and through is 20-30% of the success. You have to address your weaknesses, but prepare holistically. It's not as scary as it seems.
You will need an official language certificate from a recognised language centre, such as the Goethe-Institut or a telc-certified institute. Depending on the German federal state, level B1 or B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) is required.
The Goethe-Institut certificate (Zertifikat) is recognised worldwide as a German language certification, and can be used in Germany for visa, residence permit and citizenship applications, as well as for university entrance requirements.

The Goethe-Certificate of the Goethe Institute is one of the most meaningful confirmations of your language level. They offer certificates in all levels from A1 to C2.
Do I need to know German at all? Simply put, no! To study at a German university, you don't need to speak German as long as you meet the minimum language requirements for your desired degree program. However, you will have more options if you consider programs that are taught in English AND German.
Even though most of them learn relatively fast and achieve B1/B2 level in about 12 months, just a few of them get to B2 level in 4-8 months.

Level B2 corresponds to a more advanced, more independent level than previous levels. A B2 user can communicate easily and spontaneously in a clear and detailed manner. This is not yet an experienced speaker, but a B2 user is able to understand and be understood in most situations.
How Does it Work? These levels are classified as A1 for beginners, A2 for elementary, B1 for intermediate, B2 for upper intermediate, C1 as advanced, and C2 as mastery.
