However, after not cooperating with them during a birthday party, Leda ended up in their bad books. They thought she was arrogant while she felt them boisterous, obnoxious and privileged. This led to the family members sizing her up every time they saw her, mentally threatening and trying to intimidate her.
Leda then confesses to stealing the doll and explains it away as her "playing", prompting Nina to react furiously and stab Leda in her abdomen with the hatpin that Leda bought her earlier.
Fine for some kids under 12 but most kids can probably watch this at 12. There is some violence, but by today this is just funny over the top gore. there is also one racy scene.

The “Buddi” dolls in the film seem like a logical step in that direction - walking, talking cameras and microphones that monitors you constantly, awaiting orders. The Lost Daughter is not Your Typical Film
The genre of the film seems a lot like a drama, but the obsessive nature that the character of Leda has about her past and the family she meets on the beach makes it seem more like a psychological horror film.

On the contrary, this love is precisely what makes Leda a bad mother by some accounts; an “unnatural one” in her words. Her children came from her body, but they seemingly never left; in her desperation to hold on to herself, Leda needed to escape the love that threatened to consume her.
There is a literal answer, of course: We eventually discover that Leda was stabbed by young mother Nina (Dakota Johnson) after Leda confessed to stealing and keeping Elena's doll.
Horrified and desperate to keep the coveted role to herself, Nina confronts Lily, and they're involved in a violent altercation in which Nina stabs Lily with a shard of a broken mirror, killing her.
