Women's hemlines are to be modestly below the knees. Our people are forbidden to appear in public with transparent or immodest apparel, including shorts or bathing suits. Parents are required to dress their children modestly in conformity with our general principles of Christian attire.
There is no verse that says “Ladies, no crop tops, and guys, no tank tops.” The Bible gets at the more important issue and expects us to use discernment in working this out. When our hearts are set on worshiping God, we will welcome both the man with the gold ring and the man with the tattered clothes (James 2:2-4).
Sometimes that means more formal attire is expected, and sometimes it means casual attire is expected. I have learned that there is typically not a formal dress code in place, with maybe a handful of denominations that are exceptions to that rule.
1 Timothy 2:9-10
Likewise also that women should adorn themselves in respectable apparel, with modesty and self-control, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly attire, but with what is proper for women who profess godliness—with good works.
Do not wear clothes of wool and linen woven together. Make tassels on the four corners of the cloak you wear.
7:21). Christ wore the latest style of clothing when He attended His last Passover (John 19:23), but not everyone could afford to wear such clothes. The point is that the Bible does not mandate one style of clothing for church.
Put On Pants That Won't Wrinkle
Casual slacks or khakis that haven't been wrinkled would suffice in a pinch if you don't have jeans. Try not to wear shorts. It's not appropriate to wear shorts even though it's warm outside. Wearing jeans to church on Sunday is inappropriate.
As we all know, however, church hats are a historic tradition for women to wear in the South. Per church hat etiquette, women are allowed to keep their dress hats on in church, unless blocking anyone's view during a wedding or baptism. The more you know!
Can I wear ripped jeans to church? It depends on the church. Some churches are more lenient than others when it comes to their members' clothing choices. If you're not sure about this and if you don't want to disrespect other people that go to your church, we advise you to ask them first.
The great sin of immodesty is that we're saying, “look at me” instead of “look at God.” God's Word instructs us to dress modestly, in part, so that what we're wearing on our hearts remains visible because it is of greater worth than those awesome new flared jeans! So, yes. God does care what you wear on your body.
For Christians, all foods are acceptable. When no fast is prescribed, there are no prohibited foods. Orthodox Christians follow a basically Vegan diet during periods of fasting.
The Bible's Old Testament does have religious rules concerning dress. Specifically, Deuteronomy 22:11 gives the rule: "Do not wear clothes of wool and linen woven together." No one today knows what motivated that rule. All the biblical authors were priests, and all the priests were males.
Other groups adhering to a conservative dress code include Buddhist and Christian monks, Orthodox Jews, and more conservative Muslims such as Sufis, but these forms of dress normally are not called "plain dress".
Christianity. Some Christians take issue with tattooing, upholding the Hebrew prohibition. The Hebrew prohibition is based on interpreting Leviticus 19:28—"Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you"—so as to prohibit tattoos. Interpretations of the passage vary, however.
Modesty is an attitude of humility and decency in dress, grooming, language, and behavior. If you are modest, you do not draw undue attention to yourself. Instead, you seek to “glorify God in your body, and in your spirit” (1 Corinthians 6:20; see also verse 19).
But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven. For if the woman be not covered, let her also be shorn: but if it be a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered.
Modest, simple dresses show respect and invite the Spirit by how they affect our attitudes. Similarly, men do not wear just a nice shirt and slacks to church. They wear dress shirts, ties, and dress pants. This is to show a spirit of reverence that is not communicated by more casual clothing.
When deciding what to wear to church, women should choose outfits that are modest, respectful, and tasteful. If you are participating in the service, you may want to dress up more than you would as a regular parishioner or guest. What You Should Wear: Dresses or skirts that hit mid-thigh or longer.
Muted colors such as navy, black, gray, or beige are always appropriate for church attire. If you are unsure what to wear to church, it is always best to play it safe and dress in a way that shows respect for the occasion.
Many Christian traditions encourage or require adherents to don clothing of religious significance during church services (and in the public), such as a headcovering, a practice enjoined by Paul in the Bible (1 Corinthians 11:2–6).
Most churches expect men to dress in a dark suit, white shirt, and tie, this might not be the case at every church. You may find that while some churches include more formal clothes including ties, others might include men wearing a simple button-down and khakis.
Scripture makes it clear that we should dress in clothes that are respectable and demonstrate self-control. We should not be preoccupied with costly clothes or focusing on gaining attention through fine things. Women should adorn themselves with good works as a result of their faith in the Lord.
The imitation of Christ is the basis of the Christian religion. Dressing as Christ, doing the things that Christ did and acting as Christ are all acceptable. Taking his name or image in vain would be upsetting to most Christians and maybe a few of other religions too.
Wear black pants if you don't like dresses.
While it is expected in certain faiths that women wear dresses, a pair of dark pants will typically also work. You can pair your black pants with a dark top and blazer to stay stylish but conservative. Avoid wearing stretch pants/leggings or jeans.
