In Ruby and Spears' original series bible, Fred and Shaggy are each 17 years old, Daphne is 16, and Velma is 15.
Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed is rated PG by the MPAA for some scary action, rude humor and language. Mystery Inc. has left behind many of the innuendos and adult themes that showed up in the first Scooby-Doo movie. But there are still plenty of risky pranks in this film that parents won't want reenacted at home.
While in attendance during New York Comic Con in October 2022, "Velma" showrunner Charlie Grandy gave an explanation behind Scooby Doo being left out of the series. According to Grandy, the decision was made, in part, to differentiate the show from the children's favorite.
Scooby-Doo Remake 'Velma' Sets To Reunite All But One Mystery Inc Member In New Series. The show is set to feature on HBO Max some time in 2023.
Grandy also made it clear that even though Scooby-Doo won't show his face, the new series still exists in the same universe as the iconic mystery-solving canine. “I think it's nice to kind of allude to dogs in the world,” he said. “It's fun and let's just kinda leave it that.”
Credited with creating the show is Charlie Grandy, who previously worked on the beloved sitcom, The Office (2005-2013). The show will also be produced by Mindy Kaling herself, as well as her collaborators on The Office Charlie Grandy and Howard Klein, and Primal (2019-2022) producer Sam Register.
Before the release of Monsters Unleashed, a third live-action Scooby-Doo film was in early development, with Gunn set as writer and director. However, despite the threequel being scrapped due to the poor box office performance of Monsters Unleashed, Gunn has expressed interest in revisiting the franchise.
The series premiered on September 14, 2002, and ran for three seasons before ending on July 21, 2006. The title song was performed by Canadian band Simple Plan. Reruns of the series have aired on both Cartoon Network (2003–2016) and Boomerang (2006–2020) in the United States.
Titled Velma, the series follows an adult-oriented and metafictional "love quadrangle" Mystery Inc. with Velma portrayed as being of Indian descent.
Violence is often played for laughs but may be more intense than parents expect given the comic tone: Dead bodies of murder victims are discovered, heads come open, and purplish matter drips out. A main character sells drugs, and a minor one smokes cigarettes.

Velma is Indian American. Norville is Black. Daphne is Asian. This caused some kerfuffle.
Casey Kasem, the first voice actor for Shaggy, said that he originally felt uncomfortable after being assigned to Shaggy. Kasem stated that while he was "hip to what hippies were about", he had never before portrayed a hippie character.
That's not all. Daphne is now Asian (her voice actress, Constance Wu, is of Taiwanese background, but that is not stated in the story). Shaggy (played by Sam Richardson) is now Black and more straightlaced, and goes by his real first name, Norville.
As great as it is, it surprised many to learn that there is an R-rated version of this film. Here's everything we know about the famous lost Scooby-Doo film written by James Gunn!
It might appeal to fans of the original Scooby-Doo cartoons or other Hanna-Barbera productions. Although the target audience is children aged 6-10 years, the movie has too much violence and crude language and too many scary characters for children under 8 years.
According to the official magazine that accompanied the 2002 film, Scooby is seven years old.
Despite their many differences, Shaggy and Daphne are very close friends who are loyal to each other and have each others backs.
