Conversation. Wslm. Selected Woolworths yoghurt variants contain gelatine derived from non-Halaal slaughtered animals and are NOT approved by SANHA (bovine gelatine is clearly mentioned in ingredient list). Only the Woolworths Yoghurt gelatine-free variants are deemed Halaal suitable.
Milk from an animal such as a pig would be considered Non-Halal. There are also concerns regarding additional ingredients that can be found within milk products, such as flavorings used for chocolate, vanilla, or strawberry milk. The same applies to yoghurts and cheeses.
Islamic dietary law states that dairy, yogurt, and cheese should be produced from halal-certified animals only. You also have to ditch products that contain: L-cysteine (animal hair) rennet (stomach enzyme)
There is some debate over whether dairy milk is permissible for Muslims to consume. Some interpret Islamic law to mean that dairy milk is only permissible if it is bubbly, while others believe that any type of dairy milk is permissible. Ultimately, it is up to the individual Muslim to decide what they believe is halal.
Approximately 70% of all goods sold in Coles, Woolworths & IGA supermarkets are now halal certified whether they carry a halal symbol or not. Almost all bread, milk, butter, cheese, yoghurt and margarine are halal certified. All of these products are naturally halal, but are now certified.
So, you might not realize it's in there, but it could be! And in some yogurts, it is. "You're more likely to see gelatin added to non-Greek yogurt varieties. For example, Yoplait's Greek 100 yogurt line doesn't have gelatin, whereas its light yogurt line does," she says.

For gelatin-free yogurt, consider plain Greek yogurt, like Fage or Dannon's all-natural yogurt, which uses pectin, a plant-derived thickener.

Halal foods (permitted by Islam)
Any food is Halal as long as it does not contain or come into contact with any of the Haram ingredients shown on the first page. For example, yogurt is Halal but not if it contains gelatin as one of the ingredients.

As with many yogurts, some Greek varieties add gelatin, which is made by boiling animals' skin, tendons, ligaments, or bones. Many also add carmine to make the yogurt appear to contain more fruit than it does.
Yogurt is made when heated milk is combined with bacteria, specifically Lactobacillus bulgaricus and Streptococcus thermophilus, and left to sit for several hours at a warm temperature (110-115°F). Additional types of lactobacilli and bifidobacteria may be added.
