Keep the anus and hemorrhoids as dry as possible, using talcum powder and a pad of soft tissue to absorb moisture. Medicated pads containing witch hazel (Tucks) can also be used. Eat a diet high in fiber (bran) and roughage.
Lubricate the process.
Mixing a tablespoon of mineral oil with applesauce or yogurt and eating it at breakfast or lunch allows stool to slide by the hemorrhoid more easily.
Apply an over-the-counter hemorrhoid cream or suppository containing hydrocortisone, or use pads containing witch hazel or a numbing agent. Soak regularly in a warm bath or sitz bath. Soak your anal area in plain warm water for 10 to 15 minutes two to three times a day. A sitz bath fits over the toilet.
In India, the heat and high humidity levels can be a piles patient's worst enemy. If you don't take a shower every day and keep your anal area clean and dry, the irritation and itching will go from bad to worse.
"By straining you are causing more hemorrhoids and creating more symptoms," Dr. Wolf says. Don't delay bowel movements during hemorrhoid flare-ups. Go when you need to go, because putting off bowel movements can worsen constipation, which then aggravates the hemorrhoids.
Swollen veins located in or around the anal canal are known as hemorrhoids. If you have hemorrhoids avoid foods that are fatty or low in fiber; don't pick at hemorrhoids; avoid lifting heavy objects; avoid stress and anxiety; and avoid overusing laxatives.
Do NOT sit in a hot bath, sitz bath, or hot bucket of water. Excessive heat can actually increase anal swelling and lead to the pooling of blood, exacerbating the size and irritation of hemorrhoids.
The lowdown
In fact, regular brisk walking can improve bowel health and reduce your risk of getting them. However, walking will also not cure your hemorrhoids. If they are protruding, particularly painful, or do not go away quickly, you should talk to your doctor about treatment.
The intense pressure from prolonged sitting leads to new hemorrhoids and aggravates existing ones. But not all sitting has the same effect. Sitting on a hard chair causes more pressure than a soft chair. And the worst is sitting too long on the toilet.
Most mild internal hemorrhoids resolve on their own within a few days but may take up to a week. On the other hand, larger hemorrhoids will last up to 2-3 weeks, and since they're more prone to complications, they might not resolve on their own, and you'll need to visit a doctor.
In general, small hemorrhoids can go away on their own in a few days. Larger hemorrhoids, particularly ones that cause a lot of pain, swelling, and itchiness, can't go away on their own and may require treatment from a doctor to heal. Pregnant patients may find that hemorrhoids only go away after they give birth.
External hemorrhoid symptoms often go away in a few days. But you can worsen the symptoms with excessive straining, rubbing, or cleaning around your anus.
Use soothing wipes – cleaning your anal area after bowel movements is important, as left over fecal material is irritating to the skin. While moist toilet paper or a wash cloth will work, many people prefer the pre-packaged wipes (Preparation H medicated wipes or Cottonelle flushable wet wipes are examples).
Take a day of bed rest. Do this to take pressure off inflamed, irritated veins. If you are pregnant, you may find it helpful to lie on your side. If you aren't pregnant, sleeping on your stomach with a pillow under your hips will help reduce swelling of hemorrhoids.
Lie Down
Lying down with a pillow beneath your knees will relieve pressure from the anal canal and reduce the load of your abdominal weight on your pelvic floor. Hemorrhoids often become more painful towards the end of the day owing to the pressure associated with prolonged sitting and standing.
Is heat or ice better for hemorrhoid pain? You can try either a warm or cold compress, as both offer benefits that may help. However, a cold compress is likely to be more effective because it can numb the pain and reduce swelling.
Constipation and hardening of the stool are both major contributing factors to hemorrhoid flare-ups and are made worse by dehydration. Simply put, drinking plenty of water helps reduce and prevent the symptoms that cause hemorrhoid flare-ups and manage the condition long-term.
1) Dairy Products:
Dairy products on their own do not cause constipation, but it can contribute towards causing discomfort and pain during haemorrhoid outbreaks. Many people recommend the intake of yogurt for piles. Yogurt is rich in beneficial bacteria that help improve digestion and thus aid bowel movement.
Unripe fruits, like unripe bananas, may contain some constipating or irritating compounds which can increase the pain and suffering.
