A blepharoplasty is recommended for patients that specifically want to address sagging, heavy eyelids and a brow lift is recommended for patients with lower or sagging brows. If the drooping of the eyelid goes away when your brows are raised, then a brow lift may be the procedure you are looking for.
A brow lift can refresh the appearance of the eye area, without having to undergo eyelid surgery. Many patients do, however, choose to undergo a combined blepharoplasty and brow lift procedure, leaving them with an all-round rejuvenated appearance.
What Is the Ideal Age for Blepharoplasty? Droopy eyelids appear when you get beyond 30. This is the ideal age for blepharoplasty, though younger people can also go through it. However, most plastic surgeons recommend one to be at least 18 to undergo the procedure.
Ideal Age. Most of our brow lift candidates are between the ages of 40 and 65. But the procedure may be performed on younger patients who may have a genetic disposition to a heavy brow or deep “worry lines” between the brows.
If a brow lift is done well, and not overdone, it can fix hooded eyes by lifting the thicker skin of the eyebrow off of the thinner skin of the eyelid. However, if you have eyelid hooding, the brow lift will not address that.
Blepharoplasty is the type of surgery that repairs droopy eyelids. An ophthalmologist or a plastic and reconstructive surgeon can perform this surgery. During the surgery, the surgeon makes an incision in the natural fold of your eye, and removes excess skin, muscle and possibly fat along your upper eye lid.
Blepharoplasty (BLEF-uh-roe-plas-tee) is a type of surgery that removes excess skin from the eyelids. With age, eyelids stretch, and the muscles supporting them weaken. As a result, excess skin and fat can gather above and below your eyelids.
Endoscopic brow lift
Then, using a miniature camera and very thin instruments, he repositions the muscles and lifts the underlying forehead tissue, removing excess tissue as required. The result is a natural-looking, youthful brow.
Direct Brow Lift
The scar is usually very light, but in patients with very thin brow hair, this can be noticeable. However, the effects are usually long-lasting and highly effective.
Persons with dry eye, diabetes, and glaucoma may not be suitable candidates for eyelid surgery. Persons with drooping and uneven eyebrows may also not make good candidates. Avoid drinking and smoking as they can interfere with the surgery outcome.
Slight Changes May Occur. For patients with hooded eyelids, a blepharoplasty can create a smoother surface area on their eyelids, which can slightly change the appearance of the eyes and make them appear less sunken.
Cardiovascular disease. Diabetes. Hypothyroidism and 'Graves Disease' (thyroid problems) Dry eyes or problems with tear ducts.
People who are 40 or above usually make good candidates for brow lift or forehead lift plastic surgery. At this age, brow line typically begins to droop, and conspicuous wrinkles and fine lines may appear along the forehead.
A brow lift does not aim to change your eye shape. However, manipulating your brow may change your eye appearance. For example, a brow lift performed to address the brows' outside corners will lift the underlying tissue and skin, which may make it look like the eye shape changes.
A minimum 12 degree OR 30 percent loss of upper field of vision with upper lid skin and/ or upper lid margin in repose and elevated (by taping of the lid) to demonstrate potential correction by the proposed procedure or procedures is required.
The classic forehead lift
Before the operation begins, your hair will be tied with rubber bands on either side of the incision line. Your head will not be shaved, but hair that is growing directly in front of the incision line may need to be trimmed. For most patients, a coronal incision will be used.
Brow lift surgery recovery time
Initial wound healing may take 10 to 14 days. Sutures or clips will be removed when it is appropriate. You should be ready to return to work and normal activity after 10-14 days.
Brow lift results
Although you can expect some mild post-surgical swelling and bruising for up to two weeks following your endoscopic brow lift, you can also expect to see a rejuvenated forehead contour, brighter, more open eyes, and smoother, more youthful-looking skin right away.
Is a brow lift painful? You won't experience pain during a brow lift procedure because your surgeon will use an anesthetic. After your procedure, you could experience bruising, skin tightness and swelling. Your surgical site may be tender or sore as you heal.
Brow lifts smooth your forehead creases
Ku removes excess skin and rearranges your forehead muscles, your skin will become taut, and the appearance of these lines will nearly disappear. But you won't have a frozen look. You'll still be able to make natural facial expressions.
While brow lift can achieve more dramatic changes, Botox is preferable for making slighter, more subtle improvements. The timeline for each procedure is also much different. Botox results last about three to four months in this area, whereas brow lift changes are generally visible for a decade.
Medicare will only cover your treatment if your upper eyelid skin droops significantly and impacts your field of vision. You may qualify for a Medicare rebate for Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty) if the skin on your eyelid makes it difficult to see.
