A follow-up treatment In order to make sure any new adult worms that may have developed from the eggs and larvae are dealt with, a follow-up deworming treatment is recommended around two to four weeks after the initial dose if symptoms are still present.
Usually the medicine is taken as a single dose. Your doctor may advise you to take another dose 2 weeks later. It is best if your child showers on the night they take the medicine and again the next morning, to remove eggs laid during the night.
For common roundworms, hookworms, and whipworms: Adults and children 2 years of age and older—100 milligrams (mg) two times a day, morning and evening, for 3 consecutive days. Treatment may need to be repeated in 3 weeks.
A doctor or pharmacist may suggest you repeat the dose after 2 weeks to stop you from getting threadworms again. This is because the medicine kills the worms but not their eggs. For other worms such as whipworm, roundworm and hookworm, follow your doctor's instructions on how to take mebendazole.
You should also follow up this initial treatment with another dose about two to four weeks later if symptoms persist; to be sure the entire infection is gone. The faster a worm infection can be identified and treated, the faster kids can get back to having fun and being themselves!
Re-Treatment
COMBANTRIN® is only effective against adult worms, which means any eggs or immature worms inside the body might still linger after the initial treatment. In order to minimise the risk of reinfestation, a follow-up treatment two to four weeks later is strongly recommended if symptoms are still present.
Children can get threadworms again after they've been treated for them if they get the eggs in their mouth. This is why it's important to encourage children to wash their hands regularly.
If the eggs hatch around the anus, the newborn worms can re-enter the bowel. Eggs that have been swallowed will hatch inside the intestine. After 2 weeks, the worms reach adult size and begin to reproduce, starting the cycle again.
If you have tried a threadworm treatment for your child and their symptoms have not improved, take them to your GP. The doctor will examine your child and may want to do blood or faeces (poo) tests. Also take your child to the GP if: your child passes a large worm.
You'll likely need to give your doctor a stool sample for a few months to make sure all the worms are gone. It's harder to treat an infection caused by tapeworm cysts. In addition to the medicine that kills the tapeworm, you may need medicine to reduce inflammation or other symptoms, like seizures, that you're having.
Question: How often do I need to deworm my child? Children can be dewormed every 4 -6 months. Question: There are many deworming drugs?
Threadworm eggs, laid around the anus, are untouched by treatments such as COMBANTRIN® or COMBANTRIN®-1 – and these eggs can hatch after the initial treatment, causing the infection to flare up all over again.
Combantrin -1 Tablets may be taken with or without food. The tablet may be chewed or swallowed whole with fluids. All it takes is one tablet, once only for each member of your family, regardless of body weight.
If you take too much (overdose)
If you take too much Combantrin-1 with Mebendazole, you may get stomach pains, diarrhoea, feel sick or vomit.
These guidelines recommend that if regular deworming is used, animals should be treated at least 4 times a year, with no more than 3 months between each treatment. This is based on some research indicating that dropping treatment to 3-4 times per year had no effect on parasite levels.
Reinfection occurs easily. Prevention always should be discussed at the time of treatment. Good hand hygiene is the most effective means of prevention. If pinworm infection occurs again, the infected person should be retreated with the same two-dose treatment.

The Deworming Process after a Few Days
You may be surprised to still see live worms in your dog's feces after deworming them, but this is normal. While this can be an unpleasant image, it's actually a good thing — it means the worms are no longer living inside your dog!
When infected with worms, it should be dewormed periodically, for adults and children over 2 years old should be dewormed 2 to 3 times a year, ie every 4 to 6 months.
It's recommended that an adult dog is dewormed at least every 3 months. There may be situations when more frequent treatment is necessary, especially in roundworm infestations.
Worming is recommended every 3-6 months for life as every pet will get worms at some point during their life which can cause various health problems. We recommend MILBEMAX tablets for this.
Currently the drugs are administered in single doses. Whilst this makes sense operationally it means that some people are not getting enough drugs to actually kill the worms. Over time this sup-optimal dosage potentially leaves the door open for the parasites to develop resistance to the deworming drugs.

Puppies will generally continue pooping worms for a week after a deworming treatment. In rare cases, it can take up to two weeks to stop seeing worms in their poop. If the treatment is working, the worms your puppy deposits in their stool should be dead.
One 100mg square for every 10kg of body weight (equivalent to 10mg pyrantel per 1kg). Take a single dose, after food.
