All in all, you should remove your jewelry and timepieces before showering to prolong the life and luster of your investment. If you accidentally expose your jewelry to soaps and oils in the shower, quickly rinse it off with plain water and dry thoroughly yet gently with a soft cloth.

#1: Take Earrings Out Before Showering
To properly wash your earlobes, you must remove your earrings and gently massage the earlobe with water and soap. Also, earrings can get damaged when they come in contact with liquid, so removing earrings before showering will help preserve them.
The general rule is to avoid wearing earrings while sleeping, with the exception of when you get a new piercing. You will need to keep these small studs in place for 6 weeks or so, or until the piercing heals.
Avoid baths, hot tubs, swimming pools, saunas, lakes, etc. for the first three weeks after being pierced as they contain bacteria which can increase the risk of infection.
Flip your hair to the opposite side of your head so you can avoid getting an excessive amount of water or any product in the wound. Make sure you stay in this position until you've completely rinsed the product out of your hair before gently patting your ear dry.
Don't fiddle with your piercings.
Don't touch a new piercing or twist the jewelry unless you're cleaning it. Keep clothing away from the piercing, too. Excessive rubbing or friction can irritate your skin and delay healing.
Yes you can. Just make sure you rinse your ears thoroughly after the shower to make sure that no soap, shampoo, or conditioner residue remains. You should do this by gently allowing warm water to flow over the piercings.
DO NOT pick the crusties off—that's just introducing your dirty hands to a healing piercing and can increase your risk of infection. The best way to clean them is to soak the piercing in warm saline solution, softening the crusties which then come off easily.
Don't eat spicy, salty or acidy foods or liquids while you are healing. Avoid hot drinks such as hot chocolate, coffee, and tea. Eat cold foods and drinks as they lessen swelling. Be extra careful when eating crunchy foods.
General Guidelines for Wearing Jewelry in Water
GENERAL RULE OF THUMB: It's best to take off jewelry before you shower or jump in the ocean. Shower water comes from local water facilities that filter out debris but also add chemicals to clean and sanitize our drinking supply.
Yes! Stainless steel jewelry will not only resist tap water; it can also withstand rain and many types of liquids. So, if you accidentally get it wet, wipe it off.
The water can oxidise the silver, meaning it is likely to tarnish and will therefore start to darken. There's also the risk of dropping or losing your jewellery, so we would recommend taking off your sterling silver jewellery before showering.
It's normal to have some redness, swelling or pain for a couple of days after getting your ears pierced. But your ears should look and feel better each day. If you find that your ears do great and then suddenly start to become red, inflamed or crusty a week or two later, that's usually a sign of infection.
Your newly pierced ears will heal faster and will be less prone to infection if they are not touched. Rotating will cause irritation or injury of the new piercings. A piercing is essentially a puncture wound that heals around a piece of jewelry.
For ear piercings, it is recommended to wait 6-8 weeks before attempting to change your earring. This is recommended as 6-8 weeks is the length of time that it takes for a piercing to heal.
At our piercing studio, we often recommend our clients wear large hair clips in their hair at night to prevent themselves from rolling onto their fresh piercings while they sleep – which kinda works but it's not very comfortable (that's the idea!).
If you don't clean your piercing regularly, you could develop complications like infection, scarring, and inflammation, our experts explain. Additionally, the piercing could potentially take longer to heal. Keep in mind that some types of piercings are more likely to become infected than others.
You don't have to wait to shower, just don't get any soap in the piercing and use your piercer-approved saline wound wash afterwards.
Give it a Rest
First things first – do not attempt to clean your piercing right away when you get home. In fact, don't touch your piercing or the area around it for the first 24 hours after you've had your piercing done. The area will still likely be painful, and you need to let the piercing settle down a bit.
3) It is normal for dried blood or serous fluid (yellow crust) to form around the edges of your piercing. DO NOT pick it away while it is dry. While showering or bathing clean the jewellery and the piercing. Leave the soap on the piercing no more than thirty seconds.
It is advisable to take your favourite earrings off from time to time to let your ears “breathe”. The reason behind this is that your earrings could trap dirt and bacteria (or shampoo) if you leave them on 24/7, which can lead to infections.
