He Harassed Lily Evans
James was definitely far too pushy with Lily at school. His crush on her knew no bounds, and he tried repeatedly to convince her to date him even though she consistently said no. This behavior is not okay, and when Lily denied him, he should have listened.
Because Lily (according to them) had the nerve to not fall in love with her former childhood friend, Severus Snape and marry that no-good-evil-spoiled-rich-brat James Potter.
James fell in love with Lily from the moment he first saw her on their first train ride. James was especially delighted when they were both sorted into, in James' opinon the best house ever, Gryffindor.
Her conscious refusal and readiness to die seals the charm and, thus, Harry's fate as the Boy Who Lived. Although James has the same intention of saving his family while knowing that he is likely to be killed, he is not granted an alternative for his sacrifice to put Lily and Harry under magical protection.
Peter Pettigrew
Wormtail's betrayal was so unexpected that it was overlooked for 12 years. James and Lily died not knowing exactly what led to Voldemort finding them, but they knew that Peter was involved, whether voluntarily or unwillingly.
Lily was one of the only important people in his life, so it's normal that he cares about her despite his bad choices and it is normal that he feels guilty for her death.
And although she was one of the few people at Hogwarts who was entirely unimpressed by him, her fellow Gryffindor James Potter was also deeply infatuated with her as well. Obviously Lily ultimately chose James Potter over Severus Snape, and Lily and James got married and had their only child, Harry Potter.
'And stopped hexing people just for the fun of it,' said Lupin. All this implies that James Potter and his friends did have the tendency to bully people for fun or “just because they can”. In fact, James outright tells Lily that he's bullying Severus Snape because of the “fact that he exists, if you know what I mean”.
They were close friends, she saw in him someone special that she could care about. But she couldn't be with him. So, it seems like it was very unlikely that Lily ever found out Snape loved her.
With Dominic West, he was the one actually having an affair, Lily had no romantic commitments known at the time.
As much as people romanticize Snape's infatuation with Lily, the fact that she did not love him back—at least in a romantic fashion—seems to go ignored by many fans of the series. The fact that Lily only ever saw Snape as a friend reveals a lot about his refusal to respect her boundaries.
If Lily had chosen Severus, she wouldn't have defied and escaped Lord Voldemort(thrice), then Voldemort would have been left with one choice... Neville Longbottom, the child of parents who have defied Lord Voldemort thrice and who was born on closing day of July, and have the powers which Voldy had not...
The author of the wildly successful book series was offered the role of Harry's mum but wasn't interested. She later said: “The filmmakers did ask me to play Lily Potter in the first film, but I really am not cut out to be an actress, even one who just has to stand there and wave. I would have messed it up somehow.”
If he had expressed any of this guilt, Sirius and Remus would've told Harry that as part of their comforting in OoTP. “Oh, Harry, James actually regretted bullying Snape a lot. He always wanted to apologize.”
The simple answer: She didn't love him. The more complicated answer: He proved again and again that he wasn't willing to listen to Lily, respect her or her views, or love her in a healthy way.
Harry Potter named his son after the character Professor Severus Snape in tribute to him dying for “for Harry out of love for Lily [Potter],”JK Rowling revealed on Friday.
James isn't motivated by anything much in attacking Snape in this way; he does it because he's bored, because he can, and because he wants to show off to some admiring girls, including Harry's mother, Lily. Harry is deeply disturbed by witnessing Snape's worst memory.
Why does Snape hate James Potter? Because Snape was jealous of James' popularity and proficiency at Quidditch, and fear of Lily falling for him, AND Snape was a bully. The result being that it was SNAPE who actually started the feud with Potter.
There were many things Snape actually liked, but probably only one he ever truly loved. Look no further than his Patronus, which remained a doe even after all those years. Though she left this world, Lily Evans never left Snape's heart. For many, it was proof that he had one to begin with.
The fact that Lily chose James Potter, Harry's father, only fuels Snape's hostility towards Harry.
Severus Snape spent the majority of his life in love with Lily Potter. It is easy to understand why Snape, who had an unhappy homelife as a child, fell hard for the first person to show him love and kindness.
Peter Pettigrew, the Secret Keeper for the Potter family who betrayed them to Voldemort. Sirius Black was originally meant to be the secret keeper for James and Lily Potter, but Sirius thought Voldemort was on to him (he thought that Remus Lupin was a spy), therefore passing on the Secret Keeper to Peter Pettigrew.
Not precisely, but she implied that Lily already fancied James, or was flattered by his interest, in the “Snape's Worst Memory” scene. Some fan or other commented that Lily hated James at that point and Rowling said something like “Did she?
Snape's obsessive love for Lily fed his equally obsessive hatred for James, and meant he would stop at nothing ' even arranging the murder of her child ' to possess Lily. Voldemort tried to spare Lily, and may have agreed with Snape, before the attack took place, to let her live.
