The red herrings are getting short and sweet, and Mateo is their biological child. The bigger surprise — which was easy to see coming — is that after Rose completes a daring prison escape, sending her body doubles scattering to create a distraction while she sneaks away, Luisa betrays her.
Mateo is a son was born on May 14th 2015 to Jane Villanueva and Rafael Solano and was the result of an accidental artificial insemination performed on Jane by Dr. Luisa Alver, Mateo's aunt. Mateo has a sweet side and big heart but is full of energy and can cause a lot of mayhem for the people around him.
When the promotional poster for the season was first released, it was revealed that the character of Mateo was recast with Elias Janssen due to previous child actor Joseph Sanders being too busy with school to commit to the role.
In season five Jane's son Mateo is diagnosed with ADHD and the writers used the most basic negative stereotypes. He's disruptive, even violent, hyperactive, his struggles are always completely public. It's clearly only seen as a negative.

But in a moment of strength after quitting her job at the hotel (owned by ex-boyfriend, father-of-the-baby Rafael, are you following Jane the Virgin virgins?), our heroine made the decision to keep her baby, Mateo, for herself and sue the father for sole custody.

After five seasons Jane the Virgin has come to its conclusion on the CW—and as promised, the candy-colored dramedy finally revealed who its narrator is: Jane and Rafael's son, Mateo. Fans had suspected for a while now that Jane's Mr. Sweet Face might one day grow up to be our delightful raconteur.

Susanna is allegedly from Tuscaloosa, Alabama, but is revealed to be Sin Rostro wearing a mask and contacts to disguise herself.
Anna and Ellie are the twin daughters of Petra Solano and Rafael Solano, born in 2016. At age 4 in 2020, the girls are heralded as very bright and extremely well-behaved, winning awards and recognition for their prodigiousness.
