Young children between 0 and 12 years are considered vulnerable road users as road related trauma is the greatest cause of injury and fatality for this age group. Injuries kill more children than all diseases combined. WHAT ARE THE MAIN ISSUES FOR YOUNG CHILDREN?
Road traffic injuries are the leading cause of death in young people aged 5–29 years.
Vulnerable road users (VRU) are road users not in a car, bus or truck, generally considered to include pedestrians, motorcycle riders, cyclists, children 7-years and under, the elderly and users of mobility devices. In the event of a crash, VRUs have little to no protection from crash forces.
Pedestrians aged 75 and older have the highest pedestrian fatality rate of any age group.
Background: The term vulnerable road user (VRU) is used mainly to describe those unprotected by an outside shield, as they sustain a greater risk of injury in any collision with a vehicle and are therefore highly in need of protection against such collisions.
The publication focuses most on pedestrian safety, as pedestrians are the road users at greatest risk in most countries, and considerable research and information was available for this group of VRUs. Serious efforts have been made to address pedestrian safety.
Accidents (unintentional injuries)
For young people aged 1 to 34, accidents was the leading cause of death, the second leading cause for those aged 35 to 44 and the third for people aged 45 to 64. Accidents was the leading cause of death for males aged 1 to 44 and the third leading cause for males aged 45 to 64.
Pedestrians. You will encounter people walking on or beside the road every day that you travel, so much so that you may come to take them for granted. However, pedestrians are one of the most vulnerable groups on the road as they have no protection.
Accidents (unintentional injuries) are, by far, the leading cause of death among children and teens.
The percentage of injury deaths was lowest among those aged <1 year (7.9%), 60–64 years (7.5%), and ≥65 years (3.4%).
The customer doesn't talk much and takes a long time to answer a question. There is a clear sign of distress in their communications during contact. The customer sounds agitated or confused, indicating an illness or a disability.
In a list that is intended to be exhaustively applicable to research subjects, six discrete types of vulnerability will be distinguished—cognitive, juridic, deferential, medical, allocational, and infrastructural.
Types of vulnerability include social, cognitive, environmental, emotional or military. In relation to hazards and disasters, vulnerability is a concept that links the relationship that people have with their environment to social forces and institutions and the cultural values that sustain and contest them.
Vulnerable populations include patients who are racial or ethnic minorities, children, elderly, socioeconomically disadvantaged, underinsured or those with certain medical conditions. Members of vulnerable populations often have health conditions that are exacerbated by unnecessarily inadequate healthcare.
People with intellectual and mental health disabilities comprise two of the most vulnerable groups of the population in any country.
Leading causes of deaths among adolescents aged 15–19 years: Accidents (unintentional injuries) Homicide. Suicide.
Age groups that have the highest percentage of pedestrian fatalities are children younger than 10 years of age and adults aged 65 and above.
The fire-related fatality rate per million is higher for men and older people. For men aged 65 to 79 the fatality rate was 9.6 per million population while the equivalent rate for women was 6.2 per million.
Firearms are now the number one cause of death for children in the United States, but rank no higher than fifth in 11 other large and wealthy countries, a new KFF analysis finds.
Injuries (including road traffic injuries and drowning), violence, self-harm, infectious diseases such as respiratory infections and maternal conditions (complications for pregnancy) are leading causes of death among adolescents and young adults.
The major cause of death in the 55-64 age group is cancer followed by heart disease and injury. In the 75+ age group, the leading cause shifts to heart disease, and injury drops below Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), cerebrovascular diseases, and pneumonia.
