Animals with no natural predators are called apex predators, because they sit at the top (or apex) of the food chain. The list is indefinite, but it includes lions, grizzly bears, crocodiles, giant constrictor snakes, wolves, sharks, electric eels, giant jellyfish, killer whales, polar bears, and arguably, humans.
Quokkas, famous for posing in selfies, are native to Rottnest Island where about 10,000 live a sheltered life free from predators or traffic. They are classified as a vulnerable species and have been almost completely wiped out on the mainland.
Killer Whale (Orcinus orca)
Apex predator – and one of the world's largest carnivores – orca are also known as killer whales, though they are actually the largest animal in the Delphinidae family of oceanic dolphins. At 8 meters long and 5,400 kg, an average-sized orca can eat up to 230 kg of food a day.
But the true ruler of the sea is the killer whale. Killer whales are apex predators, which means they have no natural predators. They hunt in packs, much like wolves, which are also at the top of their food chain.
Although humans can be attacked by many kinds of non-human animals, man-eaters are those that have incorporated human flesh into their usual diet and actively hunt and kill humans. Most reported cases of man-eaters have involved lions, tigers, leopards, polar bears, and large crocodilians.
Humans are top predators of many wildlife species, and our mere presence can create a "landscape of fear," according to researchers at the University of California, Santa Cruz. Fear of humans suppresses the movement and activity of pumas, bobcats, skunks, and opossums, which benefits small mammals.
Most lions flee, even from people on foot, but an attack is a possibility and knowing how to react could save your life. Walking safaris are a relatively new concept, and lions still perceive humans on foot as a threat.
Do orcas have predators? Orcas are apex predators, which means they're at the very top of the food chain and they have no predators. Killer whales are some of the largest and most powerful animals in the ocean, and no other predator is able to challenge them.
A male lion's long, thick mane not only softens an enemy's blows, it also makes his head look bigger – perhaps giving it an appearance of being crowned. Horses are regal. Gorillas are fearsome. But lions are often called 'the king of beasts.
Pinnipeds (seals and sea lions) aren't the only marine mammals that have snacked on a shark. The sperm whale is a marine mammal that is considered an apex predator in certain habitats and it has been recorded as having eaten shark eggs.
Mammal with the Weakest Bite Force: Anteaters
When discussing carnivores – from domestic dogs to wild predators like sharks and big cats – bite force is often a topic of interest.
The mosquito is the single deadliest, most dangerous animal in the world and also one of the smallest. Mosquitoes are estimated to cause between 750,000 and one million human deaths per year.
A. attenboroughii is thought to be one of the first cnidarians, a group including coral and jellyfish, and dates back over 560 million years. The lead author of a paper describing its fossil, Dr Frankie Dunn, says, 'This is very different to the other fossils in Charnwood Forest and around the world. '

Aside from humans, lions are the only predators powerful enough to kill an elephant. The males, being 50% heavier than the females, are especially suited to the task. It typically takes seven lionesses to kill an elephant, but just two males could do the same. Even a single male can overpower a young elephant.
Because the lion is considered the king of the jungle, it makes sense that the queen of the jungle would be a female lion, which is referred to as a lioness.
Selbmann says that in the majority of the interactions documented around Iceland, killer whales seem to avoid pilot whales. Occasionally things will get heated and the pilot whales will chase the killer whales at high speeds, with both species porpoising out of the water.
Bone-eating zombies
Polychaete worms such as Vigtorniella flokati feed on the tissues of the dead whale, helping to reduce the carcass to bare bones. Sea snails, bristle worms and shrimp devour any remaining scraps of blubber or muscle. They will also eat organic matter that is emitted from the carcass.
"This kind of association between one species and its apparent predator is unusual." It turns out the dolphins have nothing to fear from these particular killer whales, also known as orcas.
Now Valentin Gruener shows that even Lions can be humans best friend if treated correctly. The basic message from both is: Treat animals with respect and do nit threaten them and they will do the same to you. Be aware but not afraid from predators.
Honey badgers are small, but aren't afraid to take on larger animals. Honey badgers are often called the fiercest animal on the planet. They also hunt poisonous snakes with ease.
