“Parents” in English are “genitori” in Italian, whereas “parenti” in Italian are “relatives” in English.

Children will often call their father papà (= dad) and their mother mamma (= mum/mom) . The generic name for parents in Italian is i genitori. Don't use i parenti which means relatives and not parents.
The name almost all children call their mother (madre) in Italian, no matter their age, is mamma, which translates as mom / mommy in American English or mum / mummy in British English.

It is used as a mark of respect to refer to Hindu and Sikh ascetics (sannyasis) and is used as a suffix or prefix to their names, e.g. Sai Baba, Baba Ramdevji, etc.
Much like papa, it's been applied to dads because kids have an easy time saying it. Chinese, Greek, Marathi, Hindi, Bengali, Persian, Swahili, Turkish, and Yoruba citizens all say baba when they're talking about dad.
