Rhinos don't actually have any natural predators, but they're quite gentle... maybe that's easy to understand knowing that they're herbivores. In any case, they get easily spooked and their instinct is to charge at whatever's frightened them.
Adult rhinos in Africa don't have much to fear from other animals unless they're very old or sick. However, their young are vulnerable to the many predators they share their space with – lions and leopards, African wild dogs, and crocodiles, for example.
Black rhinos snort when they're angry, make sneeze-like calls as alarms, scream if they're scared and 'mmwonk' when relaxed. Rhinos also communicate through their poo and urine.
Humans are the major threat to rhinos, but several other species are also rhino predators. The two species most often reported to prey upon rhinos – usually young ones – are lions in Africa and tigers in Asia.
Poaching. Poaching, driven by consumer demand for rhino horn primarily in Asia, poses the biggest threat to rhinos.
Weaknesses. Rhino's suit has one fatal flaw: it obstructs his pores. Without a proper (de)hydration system, Rhino must periodically stop fighting and drink water, lest he overheat.
A rhino would win a fight against a grizzly bear.
They're also far more aggressive than the average solitary rhino. In a fight to the death, though, the rhino would clearly recognize that the grizzly is a threat that needs to be frightened off or eliminated. This animal would fight back with everything it has.
Both animals are incredibly powerful, with unique attributes that advantage them in very different ways. Regarding size, strength, and agility, the gorilla is undoubtedly the larger of the two creatures. However, the rhino's horn can be a devastating weapon against any animal – including a gorilla.
Lions are also the natural predators of rhinoceroses, even though they rarely attack adults. Some weak, injured and old rhino adults have reportedly been killed by the felines, but rhino calves are the main targets.
If the fight were to happen on land, a rhino might have the upper hand against a saltwater croc because it is more used to living on land. However, if a fight started close to the water or in the water directly, the crocodile would likely defeat the rhino.
An elephant weighs about six tons and is 12 feet tall, while a rhino weighs two tons and is six feet tall. On the other hand, it is also twice as fast as an elephant and is able to strike with its horn, which is sharp enough to penetrate an elephant's thick, tough skin and deliver a blow serious enough to kill it.
If the fight takes place in an open area, then the rhino would likely win due to its greater speed and agility. However, if the fight takes place in water, then the hippo would likely have the advantage due to its greater strength and jaw power.
Stay fairly still. Remember – rhinos can't see well, so if you're fairly still and don't seem to be a threat, they may mistake you for a tree and keep grazing. Stay downwind of the rhino. Like other animals, they sense you mainly via smell.
Key Points. Elephants and rhinos are the animals most likely to kill lions.
Some people who have zoophobia are afraid of one specific type of animal. For example, studies have found that the two most common types of animal phobias are ophidiophobia (fear of snakes) and arachnophobia (fear of spiders).
Tigers have an advantage over rhinos because of their speed and agility. However, they are significantly smaller than rhinos, giving them an edge in size and strength.
In the wild, the adult black or white rhino has no predators except for humans. Rhinos are hunted and killed for their horns.
A lion is powerful and fast but fully grown rhinos are way too big for a lion to take down. Rhinos are also very fast (not that they look like it) and very agile. They can turn easily to protect themselves with their horns.
Rhino and Elephant both share similarities in brute force and stamina. This means they will usually avoid confrontation with one another. Although, in some cases fights break out when either one is disturbed, provoked or competing for food.
Though rhinos are mighty, a single adult tiger can kill a rhino. In Corbett there have been incidents where elephants have been killed by tigers. Compared to this rhino is an easier kill, he said. Tigers eating rhino, experts feel, is not bewildering.
Predators. Leopards and crocodiles are large carnivores which may prey upon gorillas. Humans are the greatest threat to all gorilla populations.
Apart from humans, gorillas don't really have enemies. The only predator to prey on gorillas is the leopard. Walter Baumgärtel found the remains of several gorillas after they had been killed by leopards in the Virunga Volcanoes.
In the battle of the grizzly bear vs tiger, a Siberian tiger would win a fight against a grizzly bear. The Siberian tiger is an ambush predator, and it's the only big cat that comes close to the grizzly bear in terms of size and power.
If the grizzly were fighting a wildebeest or moose, it'd only need to land one big bite. But this is a grizzly bear vs. hippo battle, and hippos have thick hides. The grizzly bear must go all out with multiple bites and claw slashes to overpower the thick-skinned hippo.
A hippo would win a fight against a polar bear.
The hippo is larger, stronger, has better offensive powers and a defense that would allow it to last longer in a battle than a polar bear.
