Psychopathy, egoism, sadism and narcissism are among the traits considered to be a part of the dark side of humanity — and new research has found people who exhibit these traits all share a common characteristic.
Background. The Big Five traits (i.e., openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism: OCEAN) have been suggested to provide a meaningful taxonomy for studying the Dark Triad: Machiavellianism, narcissism, and psychopathy.
The four temperament theory is a proto-psychological theory which suggests that there are four fundamental personality types: sanguine, choleric, melancholic, and phlegmatic.
Machiavellianism is a personality trait that denotes cunningness, the ability to be manipulative, and a drive to use whatever means necessary to gain power. Machiavellianism is one of the traits that forms the Dark Triad, along with narcissism and psychopathy.
According to Peck, an evil person is consistently self-deceiving, deceives others, psychologically projects his or her evil onto very specific targets, hates, abuses power, and lies incessantly. Evil people are unable to think from the viewpoint of their victim.

"Evil" has a wider range of definitions than that for which human or supernatural agents are responsible. There are two main types of evil: Moral evil - This covers the willful acts of human beings (such as murder, rape, etc.) Natural evil - This refers to natural disasters (such as famines, floods, etc.)

Early life experiences: Traumatic events, including abuse, bullying, exposure to corruption, or being in situations where deceit and manipulation were required for survival, can also influence the development of Machiavellianism.
