Dishonesty creates a false persona.
It can create severe personal anxiety, psychological problems, and a general sense of mistrust. People have a hard time trusting those who seem artificial.
Honesty is not just about telling the truth. It's about being real with yourself and others about who you are, what you want and what you need to live your most authentic life. Honesty promotes openness, empowers us and enables us to develop consistency in how we present the facts.
The more honest you are, the more easy it is to trust. Not only will others trust you, but you can also feel more confident when trusting others. It's always good to pay it forward and develop good karma. That's much easier to do with honesty than it is to do with not being true or faithful.
Regrettably, telling the truth is sometimes dangerous. Especially when it threatens long-standing understandings of how things are “supposed” to be. Telling the truth or uncovering lies can lead to a loss of friends, status, access to decision making or credibility.
In this article, we'll outline how to facilitate the three types of consequences: natural, logical, and problem-solving.
Generally, the term "lie" carries a negative connotation, and depending on the context a person who communicates a lie may be subject to social, legal, religious, or criminal sanctions; for instance, perjury, or the act of lying under oath, can result in criminal and civil charges being pressed against the perjurer.
A lack of honesty can damage a relationship by creating conflict, suspicions, doubt, and insecurity. The flipside of that is that honesty in a relationship creates room for growth, freedom, and a stable foundation upon which to build your life.
Sometimes telling the truth is difficult, because it can mean sacrificing something one genuinely wants or needs. It's easy to convince oneself that a small lie is harmless, but cheating is a slippery slope.
You feel bad because you have been tought that honesty is a good quality, you would be appreciated for your honesty. May be in your childhood you got some appreciation also. But being an adult you see everyday your honesty doesn't benifit you. It benifits others.
Copying another person's actual words without the use of quotation marks and footnotes attributing the words to their source. Presenting another person's ideas or theories in your own words without acknowledging the source. Using information that is not common knowledge without acknowledging the sources.
Individuals that behave dishonestly were also found to have a reduced ability to empathize accurately with others, ultimately decreasing the likelihood for subsequent ethical behavior.
One advantage of being honest is that people are more likely to trust you. If you're always truthful, people will know that they can rely on you. They'll feel comfortable doing business with you, because they know that you won't try to deceive them. Another advantage of being honest is that it's the only policy.
They alter our reality, reframing it through the agenda of the person who doesn't want the truth to come out. Being lied to makes you feel insecure – your version of the truth is discredited. It also makes you feel unimportant – the person lying to you didn't value you enough to tell the truth.
During the communication process, the effects of deception on the deceiver appear as changes in perception of one's own power as well as relational closeness. Additionally, the emotions of fear, guilt, and shame can lead to suspicion and probing by the target that can further aggravate situational cognition.
State and federal penalties for perjury include fines and prison terms upon conviction. Federal law (18 USC § 1621), for example, states that anyone found guilty of the crime will be fined or imprisoned for up to five years.
Negative consequences include things like: ignoring. distraction (i.e. getting your child to focus on something else) natural consequences (e.g. your child is playing roughly with a toy and the toy breaks) delay of privilege (i.e. your child has to wait to get something they really want)
There are four quadrants of consequences. They are Positive Reinforcement, Negative Reinforcement, Positive Punishment and Negative Punishment.
For example, their bike gets left outside and is stolen (parents refusing to replace bike, child having to save money for replacement is a logical consequence as child is not demonstrating responsibility.) Consequences are what influence most of what we do on a daily basis.
Some common synonyms of dishonest are deceitful, mendacious, and untruthful. While all these words mean "unworthy of trust or belief," dishonest implies a willful perversion of truth in order to deceive, cheat, or defraud.

Prevarication is when someone tells a lie, especially in a sneaky way. A child might use prevarication to avoid telling the whole truth about how the kitchen window got broken.
