Resonances are of five types they are Mechanical, Acoustic, Electrical, Optical, Orbital resonance.
There are two types of Resonance effects namely positive resonance effect and negative resonance effect. Positive Resonance Effect- Positive resonance effect occurs when the groups release electrons to the other molecules by the process of delocalization.
A resonance form is another way of drawing a Lewis dot structure for a given compound. Equivalent Lewis structures are called resonance forms. They are used when there is more than one way to place double bonds and lone pairs on atoms.
It is a phenomenon when the frequency of an externally applied periodic force on a body is equal to its natural frequency, the body readily begins to vibrate with an increased amplitude. Two examples of resonance are: Sympathetic vibrations of the pendulum, Resonance in radio and TV receivers.
Examples of resonance are sympathetic vibrations of pendulums, machine parts, instruments, air column and tuning fork, oscillations of bridge, etc.
A resonance is the sound which is produced by an object when it vibrates at the same rate as the sound waves from another object. [technical] The ear has a set of filaments to vibrate in resonance with incoming sound-waves.
Rules to remember for recognising resonance structures:
Atoms never move. You can only move electrons in π bonds or lone pairs (that are in p orbitals) The overall charge of the system must remain the same. The bonding framework of a molecule must remain intact.
Resonant frequency is the natural frequency where a medium vibrates at the highest amplitude. Resonant frequency is usually denoted as f0. Resonance is witnessed in objects in equilibrium with acting forces and could keep vibrating for a long time under perfect conditions.
Resonant frequency is the oscillation of a system at its natural or unforced resonance. Resonance occurs when a system is able to store and easily transfer energy between different storage modes, such as Kinetic energy or Potential energy as you would find with a simple pendulum.
The mainly important Characteristics of resonance:-
The same number of paired and unpaired electrons should be a part of a resonating structure. Resonating structure energy should be nearly similar. More stable contributing forms can achieve the representation of actual molecules.
What is the purpose of resonance structures? Resonance is a way to describe the combination of several contributing structures (or forms, also known as resonance structures or canonical structures) into a hybrid resonance (or hybrid structure) in valence bond theory in certain molecules or ions.
theory of resonance, in chemistry, theory by which the actual normal state of a molecule is represented not by a single valence-bond structure but by a combination of several alternative distinct structures.
Rule #1: Neutral Resonance Structures Are More “Important” Than Charged Resonance Structures. Resonance forms become less significant as the number of charges are increased (see earlier post).
Resonance structures are significant because they provide a much more realistic view of the shape of a molecule. It should be noted, each individual resonance structure is averaged into a resonance hybrid which is both the true shape of the molecule and the most stable resonance form.
Resonance occurs because of the overlap of orbitals. Double bonds are made up of pi bonds, formed from the overlap of 2p orbitals. The electrons in these pi orbitals will be spread over more than two atoms, and hence are delocalized.
Another word for resonance is Synchronization.
Resonance is a phenomenon that amplifies a vibration. It occurs when a vibration is transmitted to another object whose natural frequency is the same or very close to that of the source.
In the physics of coupled oscillators, antiresonance, by analogy with resonance, is a pronounced minimum in the amplitude of an oscillator at a particular frequency, accompanied by a large, abrupt shift in its oscillation phase.
By testing the response of the human body on a vibrating platform, many researchers found the human whole-body fundamental resonant frequency to be around 5 Hz.
A tuning-fork is a classic example, where its natural frequency is carefully chosen to help people tune musical instruments.
The shorter the beam, the more rigid, the higher its resonance frequency. The longer the span, the less rigid (or more flexible), the lower its resonance frequency.
Conclusion: The resonance frequency is useful
In acoustics, a higher amplitude of sound waves means a higher sound pressure and thus a higher volume. Resonant frequencies are generally undesirable for loudspeakers.
