A typical heart has two upper and two lower chambers. The upper chambers, the right and left atria, receive incoming blood. The lower chambers, the more muscular right and left ventricles, pump blood out of the heart. The heart valves, which keep blood flowing in the right direction, are gates at the chamber openings.
The “Twelve Gates” have their origin in folklore, mythology and scripture. In the Book of Revelations (Revelation 21:12), there is reference to the twelve gates, each of which represents a different passageway to heaven.
Gates in the natural are something that you enter through. The same is true in the spiritual. Every person has gates to their spirit, soul, and body. The Word tells us that when we receive Jesus we are sealed with the Holy Spirit in our spirit. The gates to our spirit are closed when our spirit become new creation.
'Gates' in biblical Israel weren't just a doorway into the city. They were where prophets cried out and kings judged, and people met, like in the ancient city of Dan.
Pearly gates is an informal name for the gateway to Heaven according to some Christian denominations. It is inspired by the description of the New Jerusalem in Revelation 21:21: "The twelve gates were twelve pearls, each gate being made from a single pearl."
Beginning in Matthew 7:13, Jesus tells us that there are two gates, or two paths that we can follow as we live our lives. “Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it.
The seven gates at the time of Suleiman were: Damascus Gate; Golden Gate; Herod's Gate; Jaffa Gate; Lions' Gate; Silwan Gate (also known as Mughrabi Gate, and now as Dung Gate); and Zion Gate.
The gate is an entryway into an unknown place, or a place of great significance; it is a threshold, and may connect the living and the dead. They are normally guarded by symbolic animals: the LION, DRAGON, BULL, and DOG are often depicted in conjunction with the gate.
Security: This is the most important function of having an entrance gate, to help keep intruders out of your home. For a gate to be reliable it should be strong and impossible to evade by someone trying to break in. It should withstand its strength through repeated use.
Tower of Babel story
…which in Babylonian was called Bab-ilu (“Gate of God”), Hebrew form Babel, or Bavel. The similarity in pronunciation of Babel and balal (“to confuse”) led to the play on words in Genesis 11:9: “Therefore its name was called Babel, because there the Lord confused the language of all the earth.”
The seven gates of the body that are situated upward are the two eyes, two nostrils, two ears and one mouth. The two subterranean gates are the rectum and the genitals.
As always, however, there is a contextual element to our understanding of Scripture, and this is no less true in terms of coming to terms with the promise of God to Abraham recorded in Genesis 22:17. That is, that Israel will posses the gates of her enemies, on condition that she walks in the will and purpose of God.
According to the New Testament, the Beautiful Gate was one of the gates belonging to the Temple in Jerusalem prior to its destruction by the Romans in AD 70. It was referred to as "beautiful" in chapter 3 of the Acts of the Apostles.
Known locally as Pura Luhur Lempuyang, the Bali “gates of heaven” are an iconic tourist hot spot located in East Bali. Famous for its “reflection”,and it's view of Mount Agung, tourists flock and queue every single day to get a picture at this famous spot.
The gates of heaven are said to be guarded by Saint Peter, one of the founders of the Christian Church.
“As he came near and saw the city, he wept over it” (Luke 19:41). He wept, but he continued on his way into Jerusalem, uniting his destiny with that of the city and its Temple. Coming down from the Mount of Olives, Jesus must have entered the city through its eastern gate, the Golden Gate.
1st Gate: Perineum (Conception Vessel 1, or CV1) located between the sex glands and the anal sphincter muscle. 2nd Gate: Gate of Life or Mingmen (Governing Vessel 4, or GV4) located on the spine, exactly opposite to the navel.
The city gates were not only a place where the marketplace was located but was also the centre of the life of the city. They functioned as the centre of the public life, for it was the place for meeting others and for assemblages.
Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised. Give her the reward she has earned, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.
In Jewish tradition, the Messiah will enter Jerusalem through this gate, coming from the Mount of Olives. Christians and Muslims generally believe that this was the gate through which Jesus entered Jerusalem.
In Christian literature, the Eastern gate of the Old City, or the “Golden Gate,” is the place at which the parents of Mary met after the Annunciation. As such, the site of the gate became a symbol of the virgin birth of Jesus.

Instead, look to Jesus and enter in. He whispers to us, “I am the gate. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will come in and go out and find pasture” (John 10:9).
Christ, then, is the only Redeemer, and he made these sacraments, and appointed these holy rites, as the seven golden gates of heaven, through which each must pass to that abode of endless bliss. From the very days of the Apostles these seven sacraments were believed and received by the whole people and clergy.
