For a patient to be considered clinically severe, or morbidly obese, he or she must have a body mass index or BMI of 35–39.9 with one or more severe health conditions or a BMI of 40 or greater.
18.5 to 24.9 means you're a healthy weight. 25 to 29.9 means you're overweight. 30 to 39.9 means you're obese. 40 or above means you're severely obese.
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) define morbid obesity as: Being 100 pounds or more above your ideal body weight. Or, having a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 40 or greater. Or, having a BMI of 35 or greater and one or more co-morbid condition.
Class 3: BMI of 40 or higher. Class 3 obesity is sometimes categorized as “severe” obesity.

Defining Obesity

8 to 10 years lost, on average, is significant. However, experts are quick to note that many additional years are lost to obesity that simply does not result in death.
