Beans and lentils are rich in vitamin B1, commonly known as thiamine. Thiamine has a distinctive yeast-like smell that insects supposedly hate, so eating dishes consisting of lentils, beans and other thiamine-rich foods is believed to turn your skin into a no-biting zone for bugs.
Tomatoes, beans, and lentils as well as other foods rich in thiamine are said to release a smell that repels mosquitoes and other bugs. Grapefruit, oranges, and lemons are all citrus fruits that mosquitoes apparently aren't fond of smelling.

Basically, to avoid being a mosquito-target you should stay as scent-free as possible, wear light clothes, avoid bogs and use an effective repellent (such as those containing DEET or icaridin).
Deter Insects
We may be fans of Vicks, but insects decidedly are not. Dab a bit on your arms, legs, neck, or other areas of exposed skin to keep bugs (including mosquitoes) at bay, however, it is not as effective at preventing bites as a commercial insect repellant.
Oddly, people also sometimes say that eating bananas might repel mosquitoes because bananas contain octenol. They do, but octenol is one of the odors that attracts mosquitoes.

It's possible. You can also moisten a cotton ball with white vinegar and rub it on your skin to repel mosquitoes and gnats.
While putting straight lemon juice on your skin might repel mosquitoes, it isn't the best idea.
