When we take something personally, we assume that we can influence their mind, we can control their behavior, or we can make them feel a certain way. We try to impose our mind on their world. When we take things personally, we feel offended and disrespected.
People are rude and disrespectful when they act impolite, inconsiderate, or mean towards someone else. There can be many root causes for rudeness, such as insecurity or fear. People are often rude after being on the receiving end of rudeness.
To disrespect someone is to act in an insulting way toward them. When you disrespect people, you think very little of them. Disrespect is all about not showing respect. Actually, it's about showing the opposite of respect, by acting rude, impolite, and offensive.
Be kind and ask questions
Disrespect comes from a place of upset, either with ourselves or the circumstances around us, so one of the best ways we can deal with disrespect is by listening conscientiously, asking questions and making sure we understand the other person's grievances.
React to rudeness with kindness.
Don't let a rude person cause you to respond with more of the same hurtful thing. One of the best ways to defuse rude and negative behavior is to stay friendly and positive. This gives the other person a chance to calm down and adjust their behavior to match yours.
In one word it is, surprisingly, arrogance. Assuming the person in front of you does not have as much to contribute to the world and the present conversation due to your own prejudice. Being aware of, yet completely indifferent to someone else is the highest (or lowest, as it were) form of disrespect.
This may mean that the individual does not respect the time, workplace, or effort of the other person. They may show up unannounced, or they may repeatedly check their phone. Continuously interrupting a partner when they are talking, or not giving valid feedback during a conversation is another sign of disrespect.
Gossip, disrespect or cruelty don't come naturally. They are learned behaviors.
Impact of Disrespectful Behavior
Disrespect causes the recipient to experience fear, anger, shame, confusion, uncertainty, isolation, self-doubt, depression, and a whole host of physical ailments, such as insomnia, fatigue, nausea, and hyper tension.
If someone does or says something that you think is disrespectful (even if you aren't 100% sure) it's important to be open about your disapproval.
Disrespect Anger
The root cause of this anger occurs when somebody has disrespected you. Maybe they haven't listened to you; perhaps they have ignored you; perhaps they have called you names, insulted you, or diminished you in some way. Disrespect anger can also be deep-seated and intense.
This is because feeling disrespected is an emotional response, and not the result of rational, cognitive thought. When we feel disrespected — especially for our politics or beliefs — we respond from a primitive part of our brains, and it can be a natural reaction to lash out.
Disrespect is defined as any behavior that “undermines the respect of authority of a commissioned officer superior to the accused.” Examples of this include: Abusive Epithets: Language that is insulting, degrading, derogatory, sexist, taunting, or mocking is an example.
May 31, 2017 - Never tolerate disrespect. The more chances you give someone the less respect they'll start to have for you. They'll begin to ignore the standards that you've set because they'll know another chance will always be given. They're not afraid to lose you because they know no matter what you won't walk away.
Insist On Respect.
Clearly state, “You will NOT say disrespectful things like that around me.” When you say this, you are making it clear that you will not tolerate disrespectful remarks. The challenge here is that saying this could generate a “what-are-you-going-to-do-about-it?” response.
These are some specific examples of disrespectful behavior in the workplace: Gossiping or lying. Shouting or speaking in a hostile tone. Saying inappropriate words or statements.

Disrespect in relationships can come in many forms, such as mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual. Over time disrespect can build into resentment and even abuse, creating a cycle of toxic behavior.
You Never Fulfill Promises
Another thing that makes people disrespect you is that you never fulfill the promises you make. Fulfilling commitment and promises you to make you worthy of respect but you are unable to do so, people don't take you seriously.
Subtle disrespect involves actions or attitudes that subtly devalue or dismiss another person's thoughts, feelings, or accomplishments. It can be characterized by passive-aggressive behavior, dismissive gestures, or patronizing remarks.
