Vomiting often. Stools that have blood or pus. Stools that are black or tarry. Severe pain in the stomach or rectum.
The main symptom is diarrhoea, often with being sick (vomiting) as well. Diarrhoea is defined as "loose or watery stools (faeces), usually at least three times in 24 hours". Blood or mucus can appear in the stools with some infections. Crampy pains in your tummy (abdomen) are common.
Yellow diarrhea can mean several things. It could be caused by a problem with one of your digestive organs, including your liver, gallbladder, or pancreas. It could also be caused by a germ, like a bacteria or virus, or a parasite.
The only colors that may relate to disease are red, black and white. All other colors are not due to a medical problem. Normal stools are not always dark brown.
If you have stomach cramps, diarrhea, fever, or nausea a few hours after eating something, chances are you may have food poisoning.

Red flag symptoms and signs for significant disease include: In acute diarrhoea: Evidence of dehydration or shock (tachycardia, systolic blood pressure <90mmHg, weakness, confusion, oliguria or anuria, marked peripheral vasoconstriction) Unintentional weight loss.
Most of the time, poop that's a different color from what you're used to isn't something to worry about. It's rare for it to be a sign of a serious condition in your digestive system. But if it's white, bright red, or black, and you don't think it's from something you ate, call your doctor.
Greenish stool could indicate that you have a bacterial infection (salmonella or E. coli, for example), viral infection (norovirus) or a parasite (Giardia) causing a rapid transit “gush” of unabsorbed bile.
Yellow/Pale Brown/Grey: Bright yellow diarrhea can signify a condition known as Giardiasis (see sidebar). Stool that is yellow or pale can also result from reduced production of bile salts, since a normal, brown-coloured stool acquires its hue from breaking down bile.
Yellow stool is usually due to dietary changes or food colors. However, if the color change continues for several days or other symptoms are present, it is best to contact a doctor. A person should see a doctor if they experience any of the following symptoms with yellow stool: a fever.
People feel sick all of a sudden, usually a few hours after eating contaminated food. Also, bloody diarrhea is more common with bacteria and food poisoning. On the other hand, symptoms from gastroenteritis usually develop a little more slowly. The illness might gradually get worse over a day or so.
In most cases, people with food poisoning get better on their own without medical treatment. You can treat food poisoning by replacing lost fluids and electrolytes to prevent dehydration. In some cases, over-the-counter medicines may help relieve your symptoms.
Clostridium perfringens is yet another bacteria found in raw meat and poultry that leads to a million more cases of food poisoning every year. It produces a toxin inside your intestines that causes cramps and diarrhea. So there's no vomiting or fever with this infection.
Lack of bile in the stool can cause it to be light-colored or yellow. Liver disorders – If there is a problem with your liver, the bile canals inside of it become narrowed and bile production is decreased. Some liver conditions that cause yellow stool include cirrhosis and hepatitis.
The most common cause of yellow-orange poop or diarrhea is eating a large amount of food in the same or similar hues. Common culprits include sweet potatoes, carrots, or processed foods with food coloring agents. Green foods, such as kale, spinach and celery, could also be to blame for yellow poop or diarrhea.
COVID-19-related diarrhea and nausea
Diarrhea caused by COVID-19 tends to be more watery, yellow or green in color. It may be accompanied by cramping and bloating. If you have COVID-19, you will likely develop other symptoms within a day or two, such as fever, cough, congestion and/or loss of taste and smell.
Explosive, or severe, diarrhea causes a person to pass liquid or loose stool more frequently and forcefully than regular diarrhea. Explosive diarrhea occurs when the rectum fills with more liquid and gas than it can hold. Passing the stool is often loud, due to the escaping gas.
Acute diarrhea is defined as three or more loose or watery stools per day. Diarrhea can be caused by infections or other factors. Sometimes, the cause of diarrhea is not known. Diarrhea caused by an infection usually begins 12 hours to four days after exposure and resolves within three to seven days.
One tried-and-true diet for diarrhea is the BRAT diet: bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast. Low in fiber, bland, and starchy, these foods can help replace lost nutrients and firm up your stools.
Food poisoning symptoms can include: Diarrhea. Stomach pain. Nausea.
Not everyone will necessarily get food poisoning even if they eat the same thing. In healthy individuals, stomach acid kills food poisoning-inducing bacteria, while lactic acid bacteria in the intestines create an environment that prevents bacteria which cause food poisoning from multiplying.
