Green – Quiet and restful, green is a soothing color that can invite harmony and diffuse anxiety. Blue – A highly peaceful color, blue can be especially helpful for stress management because it can encourage a powerful sense of calm. Purple – In many cultures, shades of violet represent strength, wisdom and peace.
In addition to gray, blue is a color often aligned with low mood, particularly sadness, though the tone of blue may impact how you feel about it. A 2017 study found that dark blue was the color most linked to depression.
Yellow was most often associated with a normal mood and grey with an anxious or depressed mood. Different shades of the same color had completely different positive or negative connotations.
The study found that people with or anxiety were more likely to associate their mood with the color gray, while preferred yellow.
According to color psychologists, the most stressful and anxiety-inducing color is 'red'. Red room ideas can be too intense for some people – could your red decor be one of the reasons why your friends hate your house? It reminds us of danger and is a color that makes you angry.

For many people, yellow is seen as a bright and cheerful color. Advertisers may use it to not only draw attention but also to evoke a sense of happiness.
The psychological meanings of purple vary depending on individual associations, but it is often associated with a sense of mystery, wisdom, and spirituality. Because purple is a blend of a high-energy color (red) and a calming color (blue), it can be both an energizing and relaxing color depending on how it is used.
Blue calls to mind feelings of calmness and relaxation. 3 It is often described as peaceful, tranquil, secure, and orderly. Blue is seen as a sign of stability and reliability.
The color blue was the color that the majority associated with, implying that people suffering from a mental health disorder will link their feelings with blue. Blue is also associated with confidence, a cool temperature or temperament, contentedness, goals, and determination.

The blue quadrant is for unpleasant, low energy feelings like disappointment, sadness, discouragement, hopelessness, and loneliness.

You might have seen rainstorm images, ravens, and skull or grim reaper symbols. Barren landscapes and faces of cliffs are popular, too. All of these are commonly associated with depression because they capture the essence of the darkness, despair, struggle, and thoughts of death that are hallmarks of major depression.
Sadness. “Gray” was the most frequent color indicated for sadness, followed by “indigo” and then “black” (Figure 1). The intensities for all three colors were moderate (Table 2).
Researchers describe the development of a color chart, the Manchester Color Wheel, which can be used to study people's preferred pigment in relation to their state of mind. People with anxiety and depression are most likely to use a shade of gray to represent their mental state.
Avoiding colors that can induce anxiety is a good start. Stay away from bright, bold, and intense colors. Colors like red and orange increase anxiety and stress, sometimes even fear. Red and orange are associated with an emergency that can elicit images of emergency vehicles with their lights and sirens on.
Nervous Colors
Also known as cool colors, they're often linked to fear and anxiety. The typical nervous colors include gray, purple, and blue.
Blue Colors
Known as one of the sad colors, blue also creates negative feelings, feelings of melancholy, sadness, self-righteousness, and self-centeredness. Too little blue can also create negative feelings and evokes suspicion, depression, stubbornness, timidity, and unreliability.
