Complementary colors are simply colors that are directly opposite each other on the color wheel. Rather than complimenting each other (as people often think), they cancel each other out; a mixture of them would produce a greyscale color. Classic examples include red and green, blue and orange, and yellow and purple.
Colors that are opposite of one another on the color wheel cancel each other out. Green concealer cancels out red zits, purple concealer minimizes yellow spots, and orange concealer takes care of blue dark circles. If you apply this theory, then you can make your concealer work better for you.
A complementary relationship between colors means that they are on opposite sides of the color wheel. When true complements are mixed together, they can neutralize or cancel each other out, producing a gray or black.
This particular color scheme draws from two colors on the opposite side of the color wheel. When you do this, the result is a high-contrast color combo that's bright and that pops.
