Titans are ghastly, peculiar, and thoroughly disturbing, but they're not half as supernatural as the anomaly that brought them into existence. The Shining Centipede, or Centipede-kun as it's affectionately known to fans, is the insectoid entity that grants Ymir Fritz the Power of the Titans.
History. While fleeing from her Eldian tormentors, Ymir Fritz encountered the life-giving anomaly beneath a colossal tree in the wilderness. Upon physical contact, she was imbued with the Power of the Titans, gaining the immense form of the Founding Titan.
Wounded and desperate, Ymir found an unusually large tree with a chasm at its base. Seeking shelter, she stepped inside and, not knowing of the sinkhole beneath, fell down into a pool of liquid. There, a mysterious spine-like creature fused with her and turned her into the first Titan.
But even so, that doesn't explain how it gave Ymir the ability to transform people into giant man-eating creatures. To be more accurate, the SOAM itself resembles a human spine, or the spine and its nervous system.
Ymir Fritz got the power of Titans when she came in contact with the so called SOURCE OF ALL LIVING MATTER. The source of all living matter contained the power of Titans and it existed from the beginning of the Universe. It has a shining centipede's structure and emits a life aura.
Sexuality. Whilst Ymir's sexuality is never confirmed explicitly, it is accepted by the majority of fans that she is lesbian, as her only canon love interest was Historia and there is a scene with Reiner in which it can be implied she expresses a disinterest in men.
How old was Ymir Fritz when she got pregnant? She transforms into a Titan at 10, spends 8 years or so dominating Eldia's neighboring countries, bears King Fritz's children at 18, then dies at 23 when her own children are around the age of 5.
Indeed, the course of the series is dedicated to freeing Ymir from this unhealthy love. It's apparent to me that Ymir's love was simply a case of Stockholm syndrome. This is also fully in keeping with Ymir's prior depiction and characterisation. She has wanted to love and be loved since she was a child.
Hallucigenia is a genus of lobopodian, known from Cambrian aged fossils in Burgess Shale-type deposits in Canada and China, and from isolated spines around the world. The generic name reflects the type species' unusual appearance and eccentric history of study; when it was erected as a genus, H.
Ymir was able to transform herself into the Jaw Titan (顎の巨人 Agito no Kyojin?), a 5-meter Titan. She gained this ability after she ate Marcel Galliard, a Warrior from Marley, in the year 845.
She gave the can to Reiner Braun, who was shocked to find out that she could read the writing. It is later revealed that both Reiner Braun and Ymir came from Marley, confirming that the writing is the system used by the Marleyans and the Eldians living outside the Walls.
That's not how it works. So Ymir, by eating Marcel, inherited the Jaw titan. Now the thing about the Jaw titan is that it doesn't really look that much different from a regular small titan. Only real differences are the sharp teeth and nails/claws.
Being the Founding Titan, Ymir came out as the only one among the Titans to fully possess the power of all of them. Others who came after her only hold a fraction of her power. With just her strength, she would wipe out Marley's forces completely with her abilities.
After siding with Eldia because she think they'll win and be able to protect Krysta, she turns around and saves Reiner and Bertold's lives, and then surrenders herself to Marley, knowing full well that she will be sacrificed and her Titan power given to a different Marley warrior.
After becoming King Fritz's one-woman army/child-bearer, Ymir developed warped love for her captor - Stockholm syndrome in the extreme - and these feelings not only prevented her disobeying or fighting back (which she could've done at any time), they compelled Ymir to protect King Fritz with her own life.
While most people considered Ymir to be this larger-than-life figure, the truth of the matter is that she was actually nothing more than a captured slave who happened upon the Titan powers by accident and became a slave to the Eldian King. The man was the epitome of greed and used these powers for his own gain.
While Hallucigenia isn't the ancestor to all ecdysozoans, it is definitely high up the evolutionary tree and direct precursor to velvet worms. In fact, the findings helped the researchers assert that velvet worms initially had the same configuration, but lost it in time due to evolutionary mechanisms.
Diet—What Did Hallucigenia Eat? Scientists are not exactly sure of Hallucigenia's diet. However, the structure of its body and mouth suggests a sort of suction-feeding habit. This animal probably fed by sucking water into its gut, while the rings of teeth around the mouth and gut area were not for chewing.
In the 1990s, after studying newly discovered fossils, scientists finally identified Hallucigenia as a close relative of a rare modern animal known as an onychophoran. Onychophorans are probably closely related to arthropods.
Ymir is in love with Christa/Historia and is very protective of her. She openly expresses her feelings when she promises Christa that they will marry after the war. During the Female Titan arc',' she worries about Christa and asks Bertolt where she is.
After being brought back to Marley, Ymir willingly allowed herself to be killed and was eaten by Marcel Galliard's brother, Porco Galliard, transferring the power of the Jaw Titan to him.
That being said, as the founder of all Titans, Ymir has the ability to force her will onto her subject. And since Ymir can only use the Titan's power for 13 years, then every Eldian who received her Titan power would also only have 13 years to live their life. And that is the curse of Ymir.
Ymir is officially documented by multiple sources (character bios on anime's website, character bio in the official guidebook) as being physically 17. She has now revealed that she has an extra 60 years tacked onto this, in which she did not age.
Because it is impossible for anyone to surpass the Founder, each person who gained the power of the Titans was fated with the "Curse of Ymir" (ユミルの呪い Yumiru no Noroi?), which limited their remaining lifespan to only 13 years after first acquiring it.
It was Eren who rescued Ymir, and she decide to help her rescuer by making his wish coming true.
