Extreme heat (fire at 500°F for half-hour) can destroy trichothecene mycotoxins. Ozone can kill most mycotoxins, but the level needed is not safe for humans. HEPA air filters need to be supplemented with activated carbon filters. Ultraviolet light or freezing temperatures have little effect on trichothecene.
Treating Mycotoxins
Bleach that includes five percent sodium hypochlorite kills some of the more common mycotoxins, including trichothecene and aflatoxin. The intense heat of fire can destroy mycotoxins.
Probiotics, particularly lactic acid bacteria (LAB) and yeasts such as Saccharomyces genus, can remove mycotoxins primarily through two mechanisms, surface adsorption or biodegradation (Figure 1).
Some of the richest dietary sources of glutathione are spinach, avocados, asparagus, and okra. In addition to glutathione, quercetin and N-acetylcysteine support mold detox. If you're recovering from mold exposure, you may benefit from a concentrated dose of glutathione through supplement pills, inhalation or IV.
Mycotoxins cannot be completely destroyed under normal cooking temperatures (100 to 210° C) and times (under 60 minutes).
It does NOT remove or kill mycotoxins.
In cases of topical fungal overgrowth, tea tree oil is essential. For mycotoxins, the use of tea tree is beneficial. Not only is it going to kill the mold that produces the toxin, but it will also directly inhibit mycotoxin activity.
Activated charcoal is a very porous powder produced by the pyrolysis of organic matter and has been reported to adsorb multiple mycotoxins, including AFB1 [30,31,32].
Several studies have revealed that lactic acid bacteria and Bifidobacteria are able to bind mycotoxins and reduce their toxicity [23,24]. Therefore, the use of probiotics is beneficial to human beings and animals chronically exposed to mycotoxins.
Barley and oats showed highest absorptive capacity amongst other fibers when tested. Another great fiber binder to consider is modified citrus pectin (MCP). This binder has shown great efficacy in binding heavy metals such as lead.
ACV has a pH level of around 2.4 to 3.5, making it slightly acidic. When applied to a moldy area, it lowers the pH of the environment, making it less hospitable for mold to grow. This change in pH can weaken the cell walls of the mold spores, ultimately killing them.
The number of mycotoxins patient's absorbed and the type of mycotoxin also play a role in symptoms (2). However, common signs are chronic fatigue, ADHD, rashes, COPD, and depression. Less common symptoms include dementia, Parkinson's, and cancer.
#4 Oregano Oil
Oregano oil was one of the mold removing oils that was proven to inhibit the production of aflatoxin by aspergillus fungus. Remember when I said essential oils do not touch mycotoxins. Well, oregano oil is the exception.
In the discovery of fungal overgrowths, whether yeast or mold, treatment options are vast. These 5 herbs discussed: goldenseal, echinacea, grapefruit seed extract, garlic, and black walnut are options that should be considered.
Some mycotoxins cause primarily acute and highly reversible effects, others cause irreversible organ damage, and still others cause both acute and chronic effects, depending upon exposure levels, time course, and other circumstances.
Mycotoxin compounds, which are toxic substances produced by certain fungal strains, are especially associated with growth on cereal crops, although other feed commodities can be affected (for example, fruit and vegetables or nuts).
Mycotoxins damage the intestinal barrier and induce leaky gut, through the modulation of intestinal epithelial integrity and epithelial cell renewal and repair.
Hydrogen peroxide does NOT remove or kill mycotoxins.
HEPA air filters can capture much smaller airborne particles, like mycotoxins. HEPA stands for high efficiency particulate air filter. The HEPA filter is often used in medical facilities throughout the country. This is due to its ability to remove many harmful airborne contaminants.
Glutathione has a high sulfur content, and supports detoxification to help to rid the body of toxins, including mycotoxins. One of the mechanisms that mold causes illness through is oxidative stress. Glutathione is a strong intracellular antioxidant that helps to counteract this effect.
Additionally, honey is slightly acidic, which is why it doesn't spoil. When glucose oxidase breaks down, it converts into hydrogen peroxide, which has also proven to be effective at killing mold.
Oregano Essential oil with its sharp and herbaceous aroma comes from the leaves and flowers of Origanum Vulgare. You can get rid of mold and mildew with its natural antifungal and antibacterial properties. It has been demonstrated to prevent the aspergillus fungus, specifically, from producing aflatoxin on food.
Yes. The type of ultraviolet light that can effectively get rid of mould is UV-C, which happens to be one of the three types of UV radiation produced by the sun. This is the reason sunlight is so effective at killing and preventing mould, and best of all, it does so without the need for harsh chemicals.
Using White Distilled Vinegar to Kill Mold. White vinegar is most commonly found with 5% acidity and works best undiluted, so don't worry about mixing it with water first.
