Shortly after this idea failed to pan out, Maggie reluctantly agreed to go along with Daryl's wishes, only to change her mind after the Reapers were already disarmed. Daryl and Maggie Are Now At Odds
He had had enough of senseless killing and simply wanted to go home. Maggie wasn't having it; she wanted her revenge and gunned down the three unarmed Reapers.

By the end of the episode, Leah had Maggie tied to a chair and could have killed her; however, Maggie stalled long enough to escape. The two of them fought until Daryl showed up to shoot Leah in the back of the head, moments before she would have fatally stabbed Maggie.

Season 9. In "A New Beginning," 18 months after the war with the Saviors, Maggie has won an election demanded by Gregory to determine who the leader of Hilltop will be. She has also given birth to Glenn's child, a boy whom she names Hershel in honor of her father.

With the entire group suffering on the road, and reeling from the events in Atlanta, Carol consoled a grieving Daryl over the loss of Beth. The kiss, to Daryl's head, wasn't meant to be romantic but it was enough to fan the flames of "Caryl" shippers around the world.
