The idea of a grandmother character came from writer Pamela Ribon. Gramma Tala becoming a manta ray after she dies is loosely based on the myth of Taotao Mo'na, which implies that ancestral spirits can come back in the form of animals to haunt the island.
When Gramma Tala dies, she comes back as a manta ray. As a manta ray, Gramma Tala guides the way for Moana. At the end of the film, Gramma Tala swims past the boat in her manta ray form.
* Anna's initial arc involving her infatuation with some weirdo stranger is just not good. The heart had originally been given to Moana's father. But when he failed to make it past the reef, and his friend drowned, he threw it back into the ocean. When it appeared to Moana as a baby her grandmother was there to see it.
Whispering, she tells Moana to take the heart and find Maui. She gives her the necklace to hold the heart in and tells Moana she'll always be with her. Moana leaves and her mother helps her pack.
Is Moana 2 Being Made? Currently, there are no official plans for an animated Moana 2 movie being developed for a theatrical release. However, in January 2022, Disney did confirm that a Moana sequel series was in the works for release on Disney+. This will continue the young heroine's story under director David G.
Moana's journey is unique to other Disney princesses because she goes on her journey for her family and her people, instead of trying to impress a man. Unlike most Disney movies, the end of the movie does not contain a happily ever after marriage.
Is Maui Moana's boyfriend? But it's great to see that their relationship never even touches the possibility of romance. Instead, their bond is one first of adversaries, then one of comrades working together on a team. They face their own ups and downs, but Maui remains Moana's friend through it all.
While I didn't see any women in the movie with a malu, I did notice that Moana's mom has a malu-style tattoo on her hands.
Moana's father and Tamatoa speak New Zealand English (NZE), which, though potentially unfamiliar to some, may be associated with a British, rather than “foreign” accent (defined as that of a non-native English speaker). Gramma Tala is the only principle character who speaks SE with a foreign accent.
The overarching message of Moana is, truly, that the worst thing to happen to you doesn't have to define you. Moana's father lives in fear due to a tragic past; Maui feels as though he is missing a critical part of himself without his hook; Te Fiti turns into a literal monster after she is attacked.
Though Moana and Te Fiti aren't related by blood like Anna and Elsa, the sacrifice underscores the large role nature plays in the film.
Gramma Tala is the tritagonist in the 2016 film Moana. She is the mother of Tui, the mother-in-law of Sina and the grandmother of Moana. When Gramma Tala dies, she comes back as a stingray, just like the one in her tattoo.
The Heart of Te Fiti May Have Been Keeping Tala Alive
Considering the ocean chose Moana when she was a child, someone needed to keep the precious Heart safe. A popular fan theory explains that with the Heart in her possession, Gramma Tala was granted a little more time to live and guide Moana on her quest.
These experts formed the film's Oceanic Story Trust, and it was members of this group who pushed the filmmakers for a bigger Maui. “They were telling us that he needs to be a hero, almost like Superman,” Mr. Pimentel said.
Exit the realm and head down to the shoreline on Dazzle Beach to place her Fale. Then pay the 2,000 Star Coins at Scrooge McDuck's sign on the construction site to complete the build. Talk to Moana once she arrives to complete the quest!
But depending on where in the world people saw Moana, they might know the great animated movie by another name. Disney retitled Moana in different countries, with most European countries using Vaiana. This change was reflected in the movie too, as Moana's name was changed to Vaiana due to copyright issues.
Moana's very name means “ocean” in many Polynesian languages, and the name Tala, the name of Moana's grandmother, means “story” in Samoan.
Chloe Auliʻi Cravalho (/aʊˈliːʔi krəˈvɑːljoʊ/; born November 22, 2000) is an American actress and singer. She made her acting debut as the voice of the title character in the Disney animated musical film Moana (2016).
Pocahontas is the only Disney princess with a tattoo.
Moana isn't the first princess not to have a love interest. Princess Merida from Brave also didn't have one. The story was all about her not wanting go through with an arranged marriage and her relationship with her mother, and that movie was AMAZING.
Many brides say they crave a fairytale wedding, but some women are taking their princess fantasy to the extreme: They're getting married at one of Disney's resorts in Florida, California, France ... Merida is a Disney Princess that doesn't end up finding romance in Brave, as her story is completely different.
Merida and Pocahontas are the only Princesses to not be seen married, or have wedding dresses in the franchise. Belle and a few others were featured in Disney's Beautiful Brides book.
