But Aunt Petunia receives a Howler – a special enchanted letter – that says only, "Remember my last, Petunia" (2.217). By the final chapters of Book 5, Harry discovers that this Howler was sent by Professor Dumbledore to remind Aunt Petunia of her oath to give Harry a place to live.
Dear Petunia, It is with great sadness that I must inform you of the death of your sister and her husband. They were murdered by a Dark wizard known as Lord Voldemort, whose cruelty and violence they had been fighting for years. I tried my best to protect them, but, alas, I regret to say that I failed.
Her last line there is, "You didn't just lose a mother that night in Godric's Hollow, you know. I lost a sister." Since Aunt Petunia usually prefers not to acknowledge Harry's mother at all, it's a surprisingly sweet moment. In the book, she uses her last words to say "Well — goodbye" to Harry.
Petunia Dursley
It is also a flower that can, in the language of flowers, mean 'resentment and anger'. A rather apt description of a woman who never told her nephew how his mother died until she was in a rage: '- and then, if you please, she went and got herself blown up…'
She made a promise to Dumbledore
As Lily's last remaining blood relative, if Petunia were to take Harry in it would seal the enchantment and provide him with protection from Voldemort. This would last as long as he could call the place where his mother's blood existed his home.
Petunia first met Severus Snape during their childhood. She was the sister of Lily Evans, but Petunia was a Muggle, unlike her sister. Snape and Petunia strongly disliked each other, from the first moment they met.
Petunia wanted to be a witch: Rowling reveals that, “Petunia had some latent feelings of guilt about the way she had cut Lily (whom she knew, in her secret heart, had always loved her) out of her life.” She also says that Petunia always held out hope that she would show signs of magic “and be spirited off to Hogwarts.”
Even Petunia, so intent on hating the magic she never had, was appalled when she learned of Voldemort's return – it was the one moment when Harry realised she truly was her mother's sister.
Petunia wanted to go to a magic school, but cannot do magic. This would like expecting to get into Julliad with no performance talents. Muggle adults knowing about magic or even marrying into the community is not the same as sending a kid to a school where they won't be able to do the lessons.
The fan asked the author if Aunt Petunia was a Squib (a non-magical person who is born to at least one magical parent) and Rowling replied: "Good question. No, she is not, she is not a Squib. She is a Muggle.
Petunia never showed any love and affection at all towards Harry because he reminded her of Lily and the wizarding world, and Harry never showed any love or affection towards her either.
A Muggle childhood
As Petunia was the Muggle sister, it wasn't long before Snape turned on her, using his power to make a branch fall and hit her. As well as the physical damage, he added further insult to injury by emotionally hurting her too. 'Wouldn't spy on you, anyway,' he added spitefully, 'you're a Muggle. '
She never really hated Lily. She was angry and jealous of her-Yes but never TRULY hated her. From the beginning she hated the fact Lily was special with magic and Petunia was not.
Tragically, the last time Petunia ever heard from Lily was an announcement of Harry's birth (which Petunia threw away). Rowling also explained that Vernon hated Harry for the same reason Severus Snape pretended to: He looked too much like his dad.
While Vernon consistently praised his son as if he was extremely masculine and robust, Petunia infantilised Dudley, calling him "Diddykins" well in to his teen years, appearing heartbroken to have to put Dudley on a much-needed diet and even bursting into tears when Dudley showed marginal affection for Harry.
Bellatrix Lestrange (née Black) is the first female Death Eater introduced in the books. Aunt of Draco Malfoy and Nymphadora Tonks. She was introduced in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. She is the most faithful member of Voldemort's inner circle.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
In this book, Rowling reveals that Bellatrix is the guardian of Helga Hufflepuff's cup (though she is unaware that it is a Horcrux), which Voldemort has entrusted the Lestranges to keep in their Gringotts vault.
Lily Josephine Evans (30 January, 1960–31 October, 1981) was an English Muggle-born witch, a daughter of Marion Evans and John Evans, the younger sister of Petunia Evans and elder twin sister of Willow Evans.
Uncle Vernon and Aunt Petunia have both tried to physically abuse Harry. In the Order of the Phoenix, Vernon attempts to strangle Potter after he thinks he's done magic, and, in the Chamber of Secrets, Petunia tries to hit Harry in the head with a frying pan, which the wizard luckily dodged.
Because Lily actually had magic and therefore was eligible to go to Hogwarts. Petunia was a muggle and couldn't perform magic to she couldn't go to Hogwarts.
Dumbledore was reminding Petunia of the letter he left with Harry fifteen years ago, where he explained the circumstances of Lily's death and the essential protection she would confer by accepting him into her home.
There were many things Snape actually liked, but probably only one he ever truly loved. Look no further than his Patronus, which remained a doe even after all those years. Though she left this world, Lily Evans never left Snape's heart. For many, it was proof that he had one to begin with.
For the Potter uninitiated, “always” is how Snape explains to Dumbledore in the final book why his Patronus takes the same shape as the one belonging to his long-lost love: Harry Potter's mother, Lily.
Harry Potter named his son after the character Professor Severus Snape in tribute to him dying for “for Harry out of love for Lily [Potter],”JK Rowling revealed on Friday.
