The MCU let them down though. The No Way Home Venom screentime was limited to the brief post-credits scene. To rub salt in the wound, the Tom Hardy No Way Home cameo ended with Venom getting teleported back out of the MCU (though it did leave a slither of Symbiote material behind).
While Venom didn't end up playing a role in the events of the film itself, the mid-credits scene revealed that Eddie Brock did leave behind a small living sample of his symbiote when he returned to his home reality.
Venom is transported into the MCU, along with a host of other familiar faces, because of a Doctor Strange incantation gone horribly wrong.
One more multiverse surprise was kept until Spider-Man: No Way Home's mid-credits scene, as this is where Venom star Tom Hardy returned as Eddie Brock.
And he does. In the final moments of the mid-credits scene, we see that a piece of the symbiote responsible for Venom actually separated from Eddie as he vanished, and landed on the bar.
