One of our favorite honey traditions is the honey ceremony or honey kiss! In this Persian ritual, the bride and groom take turns dipping their fingers in a dish of honey and feeding it to each other. The sweetness of the honey symbolizes a sweet life and future together.
The word derives from the Old English hony moone. Hony refers to the new marriage's sweetness, as well as a reference to the European custom of giving newlyweds enough mead, “an alcoholic liquor made by fermenting honey and water,” to last a month. That would keep many a couple happy.
At Persian weddings, a bowl of honey is placed on the sofreh aghd signifying sweetness for the couple. After the couple has consented and they are officially married, it is customary for the groom to hold the bowl of honey as they each dip one finger (the pinky) inside and feed it to each other.
What does the kiss at a wedding mean? Kissing at a wedding symbolizes love and commitment. The first kiss usually happens at the end of the ceremony, after the vows and rings. Now that the couple has exchanged vows and rings, they solidify their commitment with their first kiss as newlyweds.
There will be dinner, sweets, and a lot of dancing at Iranian weddings. Equally important, right after the wedding party, everyone escorts the bride and groom's car which is decorated with flowers, and they go to the newlyweds' house. The rest of the party continues there with close friends and families.
Religion: Sharia-based Iranian law states that the legal age for marriage is 13 for girls and 15 for boys, but marriages can still be carried out at a younger age with the consent of fathers and permission from court judges. This has enabled a culture whereby child marriage is considered somewhat socially acceptable.
Regardless of the condemnation or the denial of the Islamic Republic, what has emerged is the concept of “White Marriage,” where men and women voluntarily choose to cohabit without formal commitment or fear of social and religious stigma, or its political consequences.

The ceremony
The actual Muslim wedding is known as a nikah. It is a simple ceremony, at which the bride does not have to be present so long as she sends two witnesses to the drawn-up agreement. Normally, the ceremony consists of reading from the Qur'an, and the exchange of vows in front of witnesses for both partners.
