In Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, Hagrid tells Harry that he 'don' like cats' because they make him sneeze, which is why he chose to buy Harry an owl, Hedwig, for his birthday present.
A wooden flute – Hagrid
This wooden flute came to Harry in his first year from Hagrid. As well as just being a thoughtful, hand-made gift, this also happened to be the only thing in the world that could overpower a giant, three-headed dog. Well, the only one we know about.
6th place: Mokeskin pouch
This was a rather nifty gift that Hagrid gave Harry for his seventeenth birthday – and rare too! As it was made from Mokeskin, only the owner of the pouch could remove whatever was placed into it.
Fans will remember that Rubeus Hagrid, who was named the Care of Magical Creatures professor in “The Prisoner of Azkaban,” initially was the gamekeeper at Hogwarts who was tasked with reintroducing Harry to his wizarding roots.
Mrs. Weasley baked a cake in the form of a Golden Snitch, sized bigger like a beach-ball, and Hagrid gave Harry his gift of a pouch.
Remus Lupin is undoubtedly one of my favorite characters from the Harry Potter universe. Upon his intial introduction to Harry and the gang on the Hogwarts Express, he offers Harry a chocolate frog after Harry fainted from the dementors on the train.
3. Harry's 13th Birthday. Presents received: A pocket sneakoscope from Ron; a broomstick servicing kit from Hermione; The Monster Book of Monsters from Hagrid; and a permission letter to go to Hogsmeade from McGonagall.
Harry learns Hagrid was expelled from Hogwarts because another student, Tom Riddle, accused him of opening the Chamber of Secrets and releasing a monster that killed a girl.
Hagrid knows Voldemort's name, identity and past.
In fact, at the beginning of the series, barely anyone but Dumbledore and Hagrid knew that Voldemort was the charming, successful Tom Marvolo Riddle.
The giant presents Harry with a chocolate birthday cake and introduces himself as Hagrid, the “Keeper of Keys and Grounds at Hogwarts.” Hagrid is disturbed to find out that the Dursleys have never told Harry what Hogwarts is. Vernon tries to stop Hagrid from telling Harry about Hogwarts, but to no avail.
No lemon ice lolly this time – Hagrid bought Harry chocolate and raspberry ice cream with chopped nuts.
What Kind of Cake did Hagrid Make Harry? According to the book, a large sticky chocolate cake with Happy birthday Harry written in green icing. This cake fits the bill perfectly.
Hagrid tells Harry he'll get him an Owl for a birthday present. Harry's overwhelmed and gets a lovely snowy owl. Then they go to Ollivanders for his wand. The wand shop is tiny and seems extra magical.
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
Hedwig is Harry's owl, bought by Hagrid in Diagon Alley as Harry's eleventh birthday present.
Hagrid let it slip to Harry that the only way to get past the three-headed dog Fluffy in the forbidden third floor corridor was to play music and put him to sleep, a secret he had also shared with a stranger in Hogsmeade who gave him Norbert the baby dragon (PS14, PS16).
BEST: BRING GRYFFINDOR'S SWORD TO HARRY
After Dumbledore dies, Snape has to try to help Harry defeat the Horcruxes like he told Dumbledore he would. He is the one who journeys to the Forest of Dean and leaves the sword in the lake. He then produces his Patronus to lead Harry to the spot.
We also meet Tom Riddle, who is, as it turns out, the heir of Slytherin. Present only in spirit, he has all the same been controlling Ginny, and having her act as Slytherin's heir.
It should be noted that despite his fear of Voldemort and that he was not a Death Eater, Quirrell was one of Voldemort's only followers who referred to him by name, the others being Barty Crouch Jr. and Peter Pettigrew.
Dumbledore was the first wizard to visit Voldemort, then Tom Riddle, at his Muggle orphanage. He knew even then this was a wizard to watch – and he did, closely. When Riddle applied for the Defence Against the Dark Arts post for the second time, Dumbledore turned him down.
Weaknesses. After Hagrid was accused of opening the Chamber of Secrets, he was expelled and forbidden to do magic. His wand was also confiscated and snapped in half (the pieces were later reassembled and hidden in a pink umbrella, which never seems to be far from Hagrid).
Hagrid was loyal
Dumbledore has kept Hagrid working and living at Hogwarts ever since he was expelled from the school after being set up by Voldemort, which makes Hagrid grateful and loyal to Dumbledore.
He was a Gryffindor
Hagrid's Hogwarts house is never mentioned in the books, but, given his kindness, noble nature and bravery, it might not come as that much of a surprise that Hagrid was in Gryffindor.
To ensure Potter had his own broom, McGonagall bought Harry a Nimbus 2000 broomstick, which was the fastest broom at the time.
In the movie, professor Minerva McGonagall gives Harry Potter a Nimbus 2000 when he joins the Gryffindor Quidditch team.
Eagle-feather quill: In their second year at Hogwarts, Hermione bought Harry an eagle-feather quill that stayed with him for many years to come. He wrote letters to Ron accepting his invitation to watch the Quidditch world cup and to Sirius Black using this quill. We love a gift that stays with us forever!
